Pass/Fail Screens Appearing after Quiz Results Screen

Community Expert ,
Feb 20, 2017 Feb 20, 2017

Hello,

I am new to captivate so I have been troubleshooting this for a while now.

Goal: I need the user to be directed to a "pass" or "fail" screen after they see the quiz results screen at the end of my course. The user should ONLY see the pass or fail screen, not both. Also, the fail screen will contain a button to direct the user to the beginning of the course, BUT I do not want them to be able to take the quiz again.

Issues I have experienced troubleshooting this course:

The pass and fail screen both show at the end of the slide.

The continue slide does not let the user continue.

After the quiz, the user is directed immediately to the fail screen, it skips the results page, even if I pass the quiz.

Settings I need to keep:

Users can only take course once.

No playback bar throughout entire course.

Need 80% to pass.

Need certificate to print on the "pass" screen.

Pass required.

I have tried to re-create a quiz and an entire course, but I keep running into issues. The course works for a while, but then issues arise, so I am wary of continually starting over. The course is almost 100 slides!

I am using Captivate 9 on mac Yosemite. I need this answered as soon as possible, been trying to get help from the chat system, but no one has been able to help. Also, I have been told there is no help via phone for this program. I am very stuck

Thank you in advance!

This is a user forum, not Adobe support.

The Continue button on the Score slide triggers the actions that you specify in Quiz, Preferences, for Passing Grade or Failing grade. If you put the Failure slide before the Pass slide, and that Failure slide has only a button to jump to the start of the course there is no way for the user to go to the Pass slide (since you don't have a playbar navigation).

If you set the attempts on Quiz level to 1, the user will not be able to take the quiz again. If you want to skip over the quiz slides on a second visit, you can use the On Enter action of the first Quiz slide.

Thank you for your response. All the options are working, expect the pass/fail slide, still!

I put the Failure slide at the end of the course. Made sure the pass/fail options in the quiz preferences are jumping to the according slide, but it is still jumping JUST to the Failure slide!

Put the Failure slide before the Pass slide, please.

Can you post a screenshot of the Quiz Preferences, Pass and Fail?

Do not delete the Continue button on the Score slide.

You need to check the option 'Allow Backward movement' or you'll not be able to navigate the user back to the start of the course when failed.

I checked the 'Allow Backward movement' and it is still jumping to the fail screen after the quiz.

Did you delete any embedded object on the score slide? You mean that you don't see the score slide? Are you sure it is not hidden, look in the Filmstrip for the eye indicator.

Can you insert the system variable cpQuizInfoPassFail in a text container, to see if you passed or failed the quiz?

I didn't delete any embedded object. I don't see the score slide at all. It isn't hidden, I see it on the flimstrip view, and there is no eye indicator.

How do I insert the cpQuizInfoPassFail in a text container? I am having trouble figuring it out.

Change the "Required option" back to the default setting Optional. If you have no playbar, no Skip button the user has to answer all questions. This seems very weird, you should see the score slide.

To insert any variable in a text container, use the X button in the Character part of the Properties panel of the text container, change type of variable to System, choose the category Quizzing and find the variable.

Still going to that screen. I was able to add the variable on the screen, you can see the result on the top left. Screen Shot 2017-02-20 at 4.21.47 PM.png

Check if there is no action triggered On Enter for that score slide, it is skipping over it but you told that the score slide is visible.

Just to try: go back to the Quiz Preferences, Pass/fail, uncheck the option 'Show score slide', then check it again.

I unchecked and checked the option. Still not seeing the results slide.

I see the results slide in the filmstrip view, just not the preview view.

What do you mean by 'preview view'? Do you not see it with Preview in Browser (F12 for SWF output) or Preview HTML in Browser (F11 - for HTML output)?

Did you check if there is an action in the On Enter event of the Score slide (actions tab when score slide is selected in filmstrip)?

Can you also check the actions for the last question slide: Success and Last Attempt?

By preview view I mean - preview in HTML 5 browser.

I did check if there is an action in the On Enter event of the Score slide: 'on enter' is just to 'continue'.

The actions for the last question slide (on the actions tab) is to 'continue'.

I'm out of ideas. You do see the pausing point in the score slide?

Ok, some new developments have occurred.

Looks like I was looking at the wrong project when I gave you those last details (prior info I gave is correct).

I changed the settings on the quiz results page's action tab to match what I told you earlier.

It now says 'continue'. So the quiz results page shows up! But, now when I click the 'continue' button, it does not take me anywhere past the quiz results page. The pause is at the very end of the timeline for this slide as well.

Apologies for the confusion, and thank you for your continued support.
