I've pasted a number of smaller slides explaining how to complete a step by step process onto a larger project (using a blank slide for these) but I can't see the failure captions for the click boxes. I can, however, see the 'hints' popping up. Any suggestions as to why I can see one type of caption and not the other?
Forgot, but now I see, you are on CP7, right? None of the shapes on the slide is interactive (button)?
Could you try to copy a Blank master slide from another project, that has a theme that did not mess up the Blank master slide? I suspect it has to do with that master slide, indeed.
I still don't understand why you made the simulations in another resolution. With this work flow, I would understand, but you talk about copy/paste?

to add: I can see it when I preview the next 5 slides, but not when I publish the project..

It sounds like you published this simulation as an SWF and THEN inserted it into the larger project, is that correct?
If so, this workflow is not really supported by Adobe. It's not a good idea to 'nest' Captivate SWFs inside one another. You get some unpredictable results.

Thank you Rod - I hadn't published, just nested it from the cptx project, so copied the slides from one project to the other. I did have some issues showing the content, but I selected the 'blank' slide as the master slide for the copied slides and the content is showing just ok. The click boxes are displaying the 'success' and 'hint' messages, but not the 'failure' which is to me the most important to be able to guide the step by step learning...

Did you check the Properties panel of the Click boxes? Is Failure checked in the Display part? Do you see it in edit mode? What is its style (check Object Style Manager)?

Hi Lilybiri - thank you for your time btw. I can see the click box, the Failure is ticked and I can edit it. The style selected is the Default Failure Caption Style.

Those seem stupid questions, I know. Failure caption should appear when clicking outside of the click box.
Can you insert a click box on a blank slide, to see if the Failure caption appears when you click outside of the click box?

Interesting, I inserted a new slide, from blank, and no it doesn't display the failure message. It does perform the success action (go to next slide).

Something is really wrong in that case. Can you select the Failure caption on stage, and show a screenshot of its Properties panel?
Maybe add a screenshot of the timeline as well. Since it happens also on a blank slide, it cannot be another interactive object interfering.
Has the Blank master slide been edited? Does it have any objects?

To put things into context - I got a modified theme from a colleague, and this was the 'blank' theme for the project. Because I needed a clear white background slide that I could use for simulations inserted after this blank slide was used, I inserted a second blank slide in the master slide deck. See below for the two, and a screen shot of the properties for the second blank slide.
At the minute I am working with a project sized 1180x885 which uses the first coloured blank slide for most of its content. At a certain point in the project I need to introduce a simulation of the software, but to keep a few 'menu' objects placed on the 2nd slide I decided to create the simulation separately, make it smaller (1090x685) and then copy/paste the generated slides onto the bigger project. If I use the coloured blank master slide I am unable to see the new pasted slides (I can see the click box on top), so I'm using the clear blank one instead. This way I can see the content of the smaller slides in the bigger project. I have a bad feeling that the click box is not acting correctly because of these steps.
Please have a look at the screen shot of the failure caption in one of the slides:
and the timeline:
I hope this is enough to give you an idea of what might be going on here. Like I said what is puzzling is that if I generate the next 5 slides (starting at the point where I use the clear blank master slide) the failure caption appears as it should. If I publish the entire project and preview the output, it doesn't work anymore, but the hint/success do work (on the slides where these were added).
Very hopeful for a solution that doesn't involve redoing things.

I'm still an absolute beginner, I tried inserting simulation slides and couldn't make them smaller than the background. Hope this makes sense. I'll give that solution a go.

You have to resize them to the same resolution.

I remember reading that blog - when I was looking for a solution and I remember thinking 'I need to get back to this and really understand the method, this sounds like what I need'. I went back and created a new project with a completely blank background on the master slide. This got rid of the problem, it may be that using a different master slide on the other slides 'affected' the ones that didn't have that slide. I was going to insert the background image on each slide where I want a nice background and not on the simulation slides. Thank you for your time, I think you're amazing btw.

Thanks! I am glad to have been of help.
