Paused slide continues, but it shouldn't

I am using Captivate 8.

An ongoing issue for me is when I have interactivity set to no action, the slide will still eventually move forward if clicked enough. I have never been able to rectify this and my courses always fail QA review for this reason. I have it listed as a known bug, but now my current project is having more issues than normal.

The current slide I have has three smart shapes being used as a button.

Each button is set to show a smartshape with text upon click.

On success: SHOW

The settings for each button are No. of attempts: 1

Last attempt, no action

No other display options are selected.

I also tried Infinite attempts, last attempt, no action and this did not work either.

I have a number of items on the page pausing at 1 sec.

No matter what I choose for settings, the second smartshape seems to be a problem if clicked more than once the screen advances. There is no logical reason I can find for this because it is a replica of my other 'buttons'.

Sometimes, once each smartshape is clicked, if the screen is clicked again it advances. I do not want it to advance. Is there a setting I am missing, or is this even possible? Why is the slide advancing when I've set everything to not allow it to advance.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I wanted to ask about the timeline and the exact setup of the shape buttons. I'm not totally sure about the setup.

The buttons are releasing the playhead because you are using simple actions from the actions dropdown. Use advanced actions instead and it will work just fine.

Lilybiri has blogged about many times, I'm sure.

Thank you both.

I will be bookmarking your site again, as my questions are almost always addressed in it.

Unfortunately, I cannot upgrade my Captivate for this project, so I'm stuck using 8, but I see it is fixed for 9. I was able to follow your directions to fix this issue.
