Placing icons and buttons in a video is not possible - why?

Community Beginner ,

Hi,

I thought it would be easy to add a video in Captivate, pause after a minute and position a button. Now I have the problem, that as soon as I pause the Video it jumps back to the beginning. I don't get the chance, to position anything - or I would have to do it blindly. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Sarah

Ah.  Well that's different.  That's just the way Captivate is designed to work.  It doesn't work the same way as the Flash or Premier timeline where if you stop the cursor at a certain point you see what everything looks like at that particular frame.  In Captivate, no matter where your cursor point is sitting on the timeline, you still see all objects as they are positioned on the first frame.  You will only see changes when the timeline is running, not when it is static.

Are you publishing to HTML5 by any chance?

‌Hi Rod,

I mean placing objects on the cp stage. As soon as the preview is paused I only see the firsr frame of the video, not as expected the point on the timeline, where I paused the video.

The workflow is:

  1. Importing a mp4 as a slide video
  2. I start the slide preview on the timeline
  3. I pause the video
  4. The video jumps to the first frame
  5. Accurate placing of any object is not possible.

Rod, many thanks. First I thought this behaviour is one of the numerous CP bugs. Well, I think it's time to change this particular "feature". 😉

If you think you can pull that off, go for it.

I need to use Edge Animate first. That's the only solution for this CP feature, I guess.

Rod,

i've found out, if I add a cpcv slide to the project I can do things I need to do.
