Playbar buttons quit working in middle of Captivate 8 course

Version: Captivate 8

I created a new course from a PowerPoint presentation.  On the "Convert" window, in the "Advance Slide" field, I selected "On mouse click."

This is a 51-slide course, and I haven't added the audio yet.

On each slide I've removed the large click box that came from the PowerPoint, and I replaced it with a small hidden click box, that I'm using to keep the slide from advancing until the learner clicks the forward button on the playbar. I've used Captivates playbar with these buttons:

  • Rewind
  • Back
  • Forward
  • Closed Caption

Problem:  In Preview mode the playbars and other interactive objects quit working on slide 37. On slide 37 and beyond, none of the buttons on the playbar work. Also, On slide 47, I have some interactive buttons that also are not working; in fact, the pointing hand does NOT even appear over the button.

Please help. Thanks so much!

We fixed the problem it appears. We did several things:

- Removed hyperlinks from the PPTX file in the PPT app, and saved the updated pptx file.

Note: these slides with links started on slides 38 and 39 -- right after the problematic slide 37 that froze in Captivate preview.

- Closed the PPT app. Also shut down the PC.

- Made sure PPT app was NOT open when doing the Captivate - generate new course from PPT procedure. And used these settings:

A click box is always hIdden, invisible to the user. The one originally

added had its timeline at the end of the slide

Is that the case for your click box? I suspect a problem with Timeline, can

you post a screenshot?

Thank you Lieve.

Here are the settings for the click box. Yesterday "Allow Mouse Click" had been selected, and "Enter" was a shortcut. This morning I de-selected "On Mouse Click" and I removed the shortcut -- on all slides. But even with these changes, the course still freezes on slide 37. In a minute, I'll also reply to Rod with something else I tried. Please refer to that too.

And here are my settings for the playbar:

Course still is not working correctly in preview. Thank you for any help.

I'd also be looking at slides 36 and 37 to see if there was anything on those slides that might be tripping things up.  Try hiding those slides and see if the issue goes away.

Hello Rod,

Thanks for your suggestion, but the course is still not working. Here's what I've tried this morning:

Fix attempt #1:

I changed the settings for the click box (as explained above in my reply to Lilybiri). But that didn't help.

Fix attempt #2:

I hid slides 36 and 37, but that didn't help. (Note: 37 is the slide where the course freezes, i.e., where the playbar quits working.)

Fix attempt #3.

I deleted slide 37. But then the course froze on slide 36.

Then I deleted slide 36 also. But then the course froze on slide 35.

In both cases, no slides after the problem slide seem to work. The playbar is still on each page, but something is preventing the playbar or other buttons from working. (Regarding other buttons, there is one slide where I've set up other buttons, some are reporting, and the playbar is set to be hidden on this slide -- see following. But these buttons also are not working.)

The size of the cptx file is about 19,500 KB.

What else can I try?

Thank you!

Another question:

Should I have selected "High Fidelity" when converting the PPT to Captivate 8? (I didn't select it because I didn't think that the PPT had any animations in it.) Following are the settings that I used for the original conversion:

Thank you.
