playing and restarting audio with one button

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I haven't been able to find any answers online...

I have a button on one slide that plays an audio file on success. I want the user to be able to re- c l i c k the button as many times as they want to restart the audio file at any point while they are on the slide. When previewing this function, if I click on the button twice--once to play the audio the first time, then again while the audio file is in the middle of playing--the audio file successfully starts again from the beginning, however it gets cut off somewhere near the end. If I click on the button only once, the audio file plays through all the way without a problem. Any ideas?

Can you post some more details:: a screenshot of the timeline, with that button selected. Also a screenshot of The Properties, Actions Tab for that button. That audio clip needs time to play till the end, so I'm wondering if you release the playhead when starting the audio clip? That would explain why the audio clip seems to be cut at the end, because the end of the slide is reached.

It is always useful to mention the version (exact number) of Captivate you are using as well.

Here's a screenshot. I'm using captivate  9.02.421

Another strange thing. If I let the audio file play through completely after clicking the button for the first time, then allow a few seconds before re-clicking the button. The audio files successfully plays through uninterrupted the second time as well...

Also, ideally I would love to have some sort of audio navigation bar, similar to what soundcloud uses--something with a play and pause button where you can actually see each frame of audio in a playback bar and skip back or ahead to whatever portion of the audio you want. Is anything like this possible in Captivate?

I am sorry, but this works perfectly for me with the command Play Audio. I don't know what is wrong with your setup. When it is not possible to reproduce an issue, it is guessing. To double-check I created a slide with a button, that is playing a long audio clip with the simple command 'Play Audio'. It paused the slide at 1.5secs and the option 'Continue Playing the movie when audio is finished' was unchecked. It was perfectly possible to click that button as many times as wanted, and  always the whole audio clip was audible.µ

Your last question: Captivate is not a tool for podcasts, but an eLearning authoring tool, doubt that this will be possible and for such a purpose look for another tool.

Thanks Lily!

I'll try and remake the buttons or find some way to work around the problem.

Hi Jacob,

If you like SoundCloud's handling of audio. Then you might want to try embedding the Soundcloud audio link into your training with a web object. I've never done it, but it might work.  You won't be able to link it with a button but the rest of the functionality should be there.

Cheers,

Steve
