Problem with Click box "Disable click Sound" setting

New Here ,
Aug 21, 2017 Aug 21, 2017

I have created a project in Captivate 9. It has approx. 350 slides. I have captured 7 simulations and merged them in 1 file. After publishing the project I noticed that the click sound of the click box is not audible on some slides. I have unchecked the “Disable Click Sound” dialogue box for each slide. Still, the click sound does not appear for some slides. Moreover, the behaviour is not consistent. Sometimes, the click sound for an element in a simulation screen works, and sometimes it does not work for the same element on the same screen. The output is HTML5 and we are viewing it in Internet Explorer 11.

Hi Mandar,

Can you check and make sure the project does not have any 'unused items' in it. You can delete them by going into Library > Unused Items (icon) > Delete (icon)

Republish after this and check in IE /Chrome.

AFAIK deleting unused objects in the Library only affects the raw cptx file, not the published output. Could you explain why this has changed?

If there are problems in Cptx, same will persist in the output.

I do not understand the impact of Library items which are not included for

output. If the project is corrupted, it probably will not publish and

corrupted slides do not have unused items. Sorry to disagree.

In many cases the project will publish without a hiccup however it is rendering of the content when unused items will cause problem. Hence, it is the recommended 'best practice' to avoid such 'intermittent' issues - that unused items should be removed from the project before it is published. This I have tested many a times. The added advantage is also that the unnecessary 'volume' is removed from the project data and final output is of small size.

This is contradictory to what I learned from the Adobe team itself about

yhe Unused items. The problem here is with click sounds which are not even

in the Library... Maybe you have other information.

I'm afraid I am with Lilybiri on this one.  Library items that have a Usage value of 0 in the LIbrary list are not published with the final output.  I've never seen a case that varied from this.

Getting rid of unused Library items will certainly reduce the size of the CPTX file and there's certainly no harm in doing that, as long as you are sure those items will no longer be needed.  But the only way unused Library items might affect project output is if the project has become corrupted and the usage value in the Library is misleading.  I've not seen it happen, but in theory it's possible.

Thanks Rod.  This 'myth' about Unused items in the Library is often mentioned by experts, and I never found it to be true.

Usage of shared actions is sometimes awry, but didn't ever turn my projects corrupted. Just FYI.

In my case, I have seen it happening so I'd stick to this theory until extensive test results are not available to prove either of the points. It would be good if someone from Adobe can shed some light.

I already mentioned that I asked the Adobe team about it and they confirmed my 'intuition'. Rod with his extensive experience using Captivate agrees as well.

Truth is, there is nothing documented about it. Some have seen this behavior, some haven't; I have. So people are free to draw conclusions. I would write to Adobe requesting for an official investigation & subsequent statement on this issue. Meanwhile, I guess we all agree that there is no harm in trying this step. Can requester please try and confirm if there are any improvements?

If you want Adobe to act on some supposed issue, you'll need to provide a CPTX that shows the issue actually happening.  Unless they can reproduce the issue, they won't be able to "look under the hood" in the CPTX file and see what might be causing it.

So next time you encounter this issue, come back here and log another thread asking where you can upload the file that shows it happening.

Oh I guess it's time to 'exploit' my channels. I will take it up with them and post solution, if there is one.

Which exact version of 9 are you using, please? If it is not the latest, please upgrade to  9.0.2.437. There were some bugs with previous releases.
