Progress through course lost when navigated away from--it used to work, what went wrong?

Hi everyone,

Here's the situation: (Captivate 8)

I have an e-learning course in one Captivate file, that is split into modules. There is a Menu page, where learners can click on each module. The progression through each module is indicated by a picture - no progress (pic 1), in-progress (pic 2), and completed (pic 3). On the menu slide entry, an advanced action checks to see if the variables indicating 'in progress' and 'completed' have been passed. Based on that, pictures 1, 2 or 3 appear.

Each module introduction page has a variable passed to indicate the module is in progress, and at the end of the module, another variable is passed to indicate that the module is completed. The menu slide has an advanced action happen on entry, that checks if these variables have been passed. Therefore, a learner can check their progress throughout the course whenever they come back to the menu slide.

When it was published, it used to work fine, so that a user could start the course on one computer, then come back to the same computer on the same day, and have their completion indicators on the menu slide stay the same. I have since added in an extra slide to the course outside of the modules, for a survey. That has been the only change made to the course. Now when it is published, the completion indicators do not appear at all when the browser page is navigated away from; the same happens when the browser is closed, and reopened to the course.  No progress is indicated, regardless of if I have progressed far enough in the course so that the modules show 'in progress' or 'competed.'

HOWEVER, the TOC still records my progress! It still has the check marks checked off beside each of the slides I have previously visited. Why does that information get passed to Captivate when I return to the course, but not the fact that the variables have been passed?

Does anyone have any tips on what to check, or where I've went wrong?

Thank you!
