Publish to EXE fails in Captivate

Publish to exe fails in Captivate. Read the workaround and our recommendation.

In Adobe Captivate, if you publish your project as an executable, the exe doesn’t run. But when you click the exe file, you see an icon related to Flash.

This happens because both Flash and Flash Player have been deprecated. For more information, see this blog.

Workaround

Publish your project as MP4. But in an MP4 output, you may lose all interactions. If you only want to see the output without any interactions, then we recommend publishing to MP4.

Assuming that you're using EXE as a way for your customers to review your work, I found the best way to send review is to publish the course to HTML5, change the filename index_scrom.html to index.html (this makes it simple for your customer), then upload everything to a folder on a web hosting subscription like Dreamhost, Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.

If you do that, consider creating a password protected folder on your hosting subscription to put your course in, especially if you don't want Google or other clients to see the course. Then, send your client the URL address and ID/password. When review is done, remove the course from the platform. This has worked great for us - completely eliminates the problems of creating and emailing an .EXE file.

Be aware that if you just rename the index_scorm.html file and post the same SCORM-compliant content to a normal web server, then your clients will be seeing error messages when they access the content because it will be unable to locate a SCORM-compliant LMS on that server.  The better option is to turn off LMS reporting and just publish straight to HTML5 before uploading to that web server.

It would have been helpful if Adobe would have created a working solution -before- shutting the flash player down. I am not sure what to do at this point. Of course the material is interactive, it is online training. I think that is why Captivate was created. We are providing training to people in Alaska who do not have internet connection with exe files on flash drives. Now I'm not sure how we are going to do this. Any creative ideas would be welcome.
