We have created a project in Captivate 9. The actions for pass fail with one attempt at the quiz is when passing they go to the next slide. When failing they are suppose to jump back to a slide at the beginning of the lesson. After the quiz is complete the Review button works to take them back through the quiz. The continue button does nothing and the forward arrow on the play bar does nothing. The back arrow will take the student back to questions they missed even though in the quiz properties it says no backward movement.
I've seen this addressed before but didn't see a correct answer being found. I'm hoping for better luck.
Thanks in advance.
Susan
Pkease Susan, set Required back to Optional.

Do you allow Backwards movement in Quiz, Preferences? You are on 9.0.2.437, correct?

The preferences have it as not to but it is.

??? Is this the case:
What is the Required setting?

That is unchecked so shouldn't that mean that it doesn't allow the student to go backwards?
Our main concern is the fact that the continue button isn't doing what we put in the preferences. When a student fails it should jump back to a slide earlier in the project. Also the forward arrow doesn't work in the play bar from the quiz review slide.

It has to be checked Susan. Since you are jumping back to a content slide before the quiz slides, with the action set up for Quiz Failed, it cannot be done because you don't allow backwards movement. If you don't have the Back button enabled on the quiz slides, the learner will not be able to go during the quiz itself.
Personally I NEVER allow the playbar on quiz slides; another option you can choose in Quiz Preferences, Settings. There is no need for it at all. During Review you have the dedicated Review buttons that will appear. Only in versions before 9 the Skip button doubled as Next button but that is no longer the case.

Lilybri,
Your answer made so much sense that we'd screwed up not allowing backward movement. We changed that in the preferences but the continue button still isn't working. We are only allowing one attempt at the quiz. Could that be causing the problem?

Hmmm, I don't thnk the number of attempts is relevant. I asked also about the Quiz setting for 'Required' in a previous answer. Please keep it set to 'Optional'.

Changing the number of attempts didn't make it work.

As I expected, please, answer my question about the Required setting I asked already twice, and Rod repeated that same question.

What do you have set for the Quiz > Settings > Required dropdown? If you have it set to Pass Required, then the Continue button won't work because you've basically said it should be impossible to move beyond the Quiz Results slide for anything other than a pass on the quiz. Any setting other than Optional in that dropdown menu can have some unintended effects at times, so I generally recommend you start off with Optional by default.

Rod, I asked the same already twice....

Wish this would let me mark both Rod and Lilybri as correct. Changing it to Optional did let it jump to the correct slide. Now the issue is that when the student returns to where the quiz starts it just shows him what he answered last time and doesn't let him make another attempt.
So if we make it two attempts then is there a way if they still fail on the second attempt we can have it just boot him out of the course entirely?
Thanks,
Susan

Well, I asked that question already twice in this thread but never got an answer.
You want two attempts on Quiz level? But have the jump to the content slide happen only after use a condithe second attempt? Learner will have to use the Retake button to go to the second attempt. Make that button visiible in the Preferences. You can drag the Continue button under the Retake button. That Retake button will disappear after the second attempt, Conitnue button appears which will executed the Action you specified with 'Failing Grade', and will go to the content slides.

When we changed the setting to Optional and we tried Answer All we got a Skip button showing up on the questions slides. It isn't selected in the Quiz Preferences. How do we get rid of this?

Please, keep to Optional! They will hav to answer all questions since there is no Skip button by default and you turned off the playbar.

We have the play bar turned off for the quiz but the Skip button is still present.

Look in the Quiz Properties panel for each slide, maybe the Skip button is turned on there, which would override the global settings in Quiz Preferences. Or perhaps you are looking at the master slide: there the Skip button will always show up.

I'll check that out tomorrow but we were definitely looking at the published project when we were seeing the skip button. Thanks for all your time and patience.

Are you sure you didn't turn on the Submit All option, mistaking it for Answer All?
If you select the Submit All checkbox in Quiz settings then that will turn on the Back and Next buttons by default because without those navigation buttons your learner would not be able to move freely through the quiz questions until the point where they wish to submit them all with one click on the Submit All button.
