Quiz-only remediation

New Here ,

Because quiz variables like attempts are read only and can't be changed/reset, what are some good solutions for mimicking maximum attempts without actually setting max attempts?

Here's a scenario, presume to allow a student 2 attempts at a quiz but if they fail twice, enforce a cool down (lock them out of the quiz) for a certain amount of time (say 24 hours) before re-attempting.

The reason why would be that remediation occurs outside of the captivate quiz (can't use built in remediation, or at least not as I currently understand it).

Personally I would look at the LMS functionality and combine them with Captivate's functionality.

Thanks Lilybiri, I'll have to speak with my vendor. I can reset the students progress/scores in the LMS but it does not appear to be resetting attempts in the SCORM 1.2 package

You need to remember that there are actually three separate levels of "attempts" when it comes to quizzing in e-learning.

The LMS only controls the number of attempts allowed on the entire module or course.  It's the number of times the learner is allowed to launch the course.

Once the Captivate module is launched from the LMS, it then internally has control over the number of times the learner can attempt the quiz WITHIN that same user session.  (We're talking about UNSUCCESSFUL attempts on the quiz here. The learner will only be allowed ONE successful attempt.)

Individual quiz questions can also be set to allow a given number of UNSUCCESSFUL attempts.  This is the final level of attempts.

So, making some change in the LMS settings will have no effect on the configuration of attempts that have been set and published within the Captivate module.  To change that setup you need to re-open the CPTX file and republish after changes then reupload to the LMS.
