Quiz slide freezes when trying to navigate away from question page

After submitting a response to a question, I could not move to the next slide. It's set up so that you can click anywhere to continue. The only thing that works is going to the previous slide, then going back to the next slide and then for some reason the 'Next' button starts working. 

Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

Did you delete any of the embedded objects on the quiz slides? Those are the objects that do not have an individual timeline (you can see this both on the master slides and the normal quiz slides).

There is no Next button in Captivate 9 on the quiz slides, the only default buttons are: Back, Skip, Clear and Submit.

In previous versions the Skip button was also used for the Review situation, where if had the function of a Next button. But CP9 has dedicated navigation buttons during Review.

What do you mean by the 'Next button'? And what are your Quiz Preferences, more specifically the 'Required' setting?

By Next button I mean the Skip button.

The required setting is 'answer all'

all the other quiz questions are built in the exact same way and they're working just fine.

There is some contradiction in your settings: why do you give a Skip button when you have that Required option?  If you want to force the user to answer each question, you need to take out the Skip button totally. I would also never allow Backward movement with such a Required option. What is the sense since they cannot change a given answer when going back to another question? Try to uncheck the Skip, and remove backward navigation (you'll get the question to remove the Back buttons in that case, which is logical).
