"Question X of Y" field not as wide in published project

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this.

Within Captivate, the "question x of y" field on my question slides looks fine.

When I publish the project, however, the field suddenly isnt wide enough for the text and the text wraps.

I have realized that if I go to every question slide and make the field twice and wide and twice as tall, it also looks ok in the published version.  But unfortuantely, my changes dont seem to stick.  Occasionally something causes the field to go back to its original dimensions and I have enlarge it again.   This is the third time that I am enlarging the fields so that it also looks ok in the published version.

I am using Captivate 9.

Ryan, edit the field width in the Master slide(s) used for the questions. That change will propagate throughout all your quiz slides. And save then the theme, so that you don't have to repeat this for future projects. Be careful: you will probably not be able to use the mouse to increase the field width, but have to use the Properties panel, Options tab. Uncheck 'constrain proportions' and you'll be able to increase the width.

This looks a bit like a bug to me. I cannot find out if this is a shap

This looks a bit like a bug to me. I cannot find out if this is a shape or a caption, because the style, Default Progress Indicator style is not clear about it.

There is no way to change the margins, which makes me suspecy it is a text caption, not a shape.

Great, thank you.

The question slides didn't seem to immediately reflect the changes I made on the question master slide, but maybe I just don't see the changes until I publish the project.

Normally changes do reflect immediately but I have to confess that I didn't double-check this change. I just did now, and see that all the progress indicator fields have increased the width on existing quiz slides.  Can you check? Are you on 9.0.2.437? I start to wonder, because this is the second time that you seem to have a different result from what I tested.

Can you check this:

  1. Select the progress indicator on a normal quiz slide, look at the Options, what is its width?
  2. Go into Master Slide panel, choose the master slide that was used by that question slide
  3. Select the progress indicator, do what I told before and showed in the screenshot
  4. Go back to the quiz slide and check the size of the progress indicatior: now I tested, and for me the increase in width was applied to all quiz slides, based on that master slide.

Hi Lilybiri,

I have the same version of Captivate as you.

I realized the the changes on the question slide master are reflected on the question slides, but ONLY AFTER I SAVE.  So that's the key.  : )  Thanks again.

Strange again, for me it is immediately, no need to change. Fine, that saves some time. But you shouldn't need that work flow, the fields in the different included themes should be wide enough IMO.

Yea, this is strange. After publishing, the fields on the indivdual question slides shrunk back to their original width(114px).  But the width on the qustion master slide remained the same (125px).

On the question master slide, I dragged a lot of native elements off-stage because I didn't need to use them -- e.g. "Prüfungsbereich"... maybe that is causing my problems..

Never take out embedded objects on quiz slides, that could be the cause of you seeing a totally different result. As I explained in the other thread, it is OK to make objects invisible by shrinking the size, by moving, by changing fill/stroke, delete text etc. Do not delete them or drag them off the slide. I see that you dragged out the Review area as well. If you cannot uncheck an option to have something disappear (is possible for the messages), do not move them out.

Hi,

When you say "never remove the embedded objects", are you referring to the question slides AND the question slide masters?

Both. If you want to 'hide' some objects, it is always quicker to do it on the master slides.

Ok. Great. Thanks again.  Those objects are super annoying because there are not on the time line and you always seem to click them when you dont want to, but shrinking them will help.  : )
