Resources for the basics?

I'm finding this version impossible to use.  I was previously using Captivate 2017 and it was so much more user friendly.  So far I cannot see how to remove/delete or resize images or text boxes.  I've just read that this version of Captivate is not compatible with older versions- if this is true it is completely unnacceptable.  I have many projects that need updating frequently.  This means I have to restart them from scratch?

Are there any resources available which clearly show how to use the basics of this product?

I am very disappointed in this new version. If I could return my license I would and search for a new product.

I'm afraid I have bad news for you: the New Captivate is not at all compatible for previous versions of Captivate. It was rebuilt from the ground up, with a completely different code base, and includes a... different... set of features to Captivate Classic, which is what Adobe calls all prior versions. To the best of my knowledge, using only publicly available information from Adobe, the New Captivate will not be receiving many of the features from Classic, and Classic will stop being supported in 2028.

However, if you have the New Captivate, you automatically have a license to Captivate Classic 2019. You could use that, which will open your 2017 projects.

Are there any resources available which clearly show how to use the basics of this product?

Adobe Press has not created a new Classroom in a Book for this current version of Captivate. The latest is for Captivate Classic (2019). These resources might prove helpful, however:

Pariah Burke | Trainer, Author, Instructional Designer | InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, Photoshop, Firefly, Audition, Canva, Generative AI | Accessibility / Section 508, Publishing, Generative AI, EPUB, IFX, more.

I have some good news:  you are entitled on the same license to use also version 11.8.2 which is compatible with previous versions of 11.  Although I have also to tell that it is much more buggy than the stable version 11.5.5.553 and is missing some options which were not necessary to take out because of the SWF history: all learning interactions have disappeared.

For the new version, I have already explored some differences and published some blog posts. You find basic tutorials in the eLearning community, but better not go beyond the 'straitjacket' imposed by the application which is due to focus on responsive projects and creation with canned templates and blocks.

For older versions lot of expertise was built during more than two decades and spread all over social media, blog posts, videos. It will take a while before that will be the case for this new version.

Be careful when contacting AI chat agents because most answers you'll get will be wrong once you go beyond basics. Here is a short summary of a chat I had with one of them:

When exploring the new version, out of loyalty with Captivate (maybe not deserved) I started with one of the features which promised to be an improvement: bookmarks. You can have a look at:

Now I am busy with answers to specific questions everywhere about quizzes. At this moment that is not so positive compared with previous versions. A remark by a trainer is burnt in my mind: you have to unlearn everything you know about Captivate for this new version. Being a professor, coach, trainer since decades, this is not what I expected.

For resources, it looks like there is self-paced online training resulting in certification here: Adobe Captivate Certification . I can't vouch for it. I always find videos from Paul Wilson's eLearning Tutorials - YouTube helpful for being clear and easy to understand.
