Screen readers not reading the value of a variable

Explorer ,
Dec 05, 2019 Dec 05, 2019

Is there any way to force a screen reader to read the value of a variable rather than the name of the variable?

As an example, when I use the variable in Captivate to display the page number, the screen reader reads the name, not the value.

Execute this JavaScript on enter of each slide:

setTimeout(function(){
document.getElementById( 'slideNumaccStr' ).childNodes[ 0 ].innerHTML = "Page " + window.cpInfoCurrentSlide + " of " + window.cpInfoSlideCount;},1000)

The part in Bold "slideNum" is the name of the text caption used to display the page numbers. It need to be on the first slide and set to display for the rest of project, it won't work on a master slide.
