Sluggish performance after update

New Here ,
Aug 17, 2016 Aug 17, 2016

I recently updated Captivate 9 to version 9.0.2.421. The interface appears the same except for the addition of a Community item in the menu. However, the performance has become sluggish. It's almost as if there's an auto-save function working in the background. Intermittently the program will freeze for 4 to 10 seconds before allowing me to do anything again. Is there any way to go back to the former version? While not debilitating, it is an irritation to have to stop every time I do anything and wait for Captivate to catch up.

We have a collègue and me rather the same problem after an upgrade in 9.02 : captivate stops running after 2 minutes. We have found that if we disconnect all the networks (Wi-Fi, rj45 plug), then we start Captivate and after we put again the networks, we can use captivate without any problem... Why? We don't know.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I followed the process you suggested, but it didn't fix the problem. The sluggish behavior persists.

I've got the same problem: Captivate crashes afer about 2 minutes, but only when connected to our corporate network. Doesn't happen when connected to the open internet or without internet connection. Guess it tries to call home at some point of time and runs against some firewall, causing it to crash, See my post at Captivate 9.0.2 crashes when launched from within corporate network

There are various things that could be causing the slow or sluggish performance. After the update, make sure you complete the following steps as outlined in the release notes for this update.

You may also want to clear out your cache. I run my copy of Captivate on a notebook PC with a relatively small solid state drive instead of a hard drive. It doesn't take long to fill up my cache folder when I'm working on several projects at once. To clear your cache, with Adobe Captivate running but no projects open...

  1. Click Edit / Preferences (Shift + F8)
  2. Click on the General Settings category
  3. Click the Clear Cache... button
  4. Click OK

This will delete unneeded files remaining on your disk from previously opened project files (they will get recreated when you work on these projects again).

Thanks for the reply. We use the Adobe dcache app to delete the cache and I consistently do that before publishing a course. I cleared the cache using the method you outlined above, but the sluggish behavior still continues.

I realised that when you do not open the "Community" tab on Captivate, then the performance are pretty much normal. But when you open the "Community" tab and then return to working on a Captivate project, then the performance becomes sluggish indeed. Must be something with network connections in the background or something.

My workaround is to use the eLearning community in a web browser (elearning.adobe.com) instead of using the "Community" icon in Captivate.

On a side note, we definitely want to report this as a bug. Has someone done this already?

Thanks for the reply. I have never opened the Community tab. I just noticed it had been added after the update, but I have never interacted with it. I am on a corporate network, however I do not have the option to connect without it. I work in a secure environment and it is not permitted. Unlike some who have commented in this thread, Captivate doesn't crash, it freezes for a few seconds.
