Hi,

I am about to loosing it.

I can't drag the handle on the text caption box in a fluid box. I just mark the fluid box.

I can't get hold of the handle to resize the text box.

How hard can it be???

Size of objects in fluid boxes depend on the setup of the fluid box itself in the first place. Can you post a screenshot showing the setup of the fluid box containing that text caption?  Example: if you have Stretch activated horizontally/vertically that will lead to preventing resizing the text caption in most situations.  You can check this in the Position Properties panel of the text caption: both width and height will be dimmed.

I think  I get it now, it's about content flow, right?

Vertical or horizontal.

You saved my computer going out the window...

Glad that helped. Fluid boxes are not as simple to use as marketing people tell.

Please, can you mark the most relevant answer as being correct?

I don't know if you saw my next two questions so I reply on your post.

Next two questions:

1. I can't change both vertical and horizontal size in some way? Now I need to choose.

2. What about pictures, I can't find a way to change the size within the fluidbox so it keeps the proportions.

Sorry if it's stupid questions but I just recently started to use Captivate.

For starters with Captivate I would never recommend to start with Fluid Boxes projects before mastering the main challenges with non-responsive projects. Sorry if that sounds disappointing to you. Have a look at this rather old blog post, to understand what I mean by main challenges:

https://blog.lilybiri.com/challenges-for-starters

Images will probably have the option 'Maintain Aspect Ratio' checked in their Properties panel, can you have a look? Reason is of course that you don't want to distort those images when the fluid boxes are rearranged because the resolution of the browser changes for smaller devices.

You had a look at the Position Properties and you'll see often that one of the dimensions (Width/Height) is set to Auto which is for the same reason: to keep the ratio Width/Height.

I have several blog posts about Fluid Boxes, but believe me, it is worthwhile to start with non-responsive projects. Especially Timeline and Theme are important, and probably also Quizzes.

Thank you for your disappointing answer... 🙂

The only reason why I want to give Captivate a chance, instead of Storyline I'm using today, is responsive courses.

I'm willing to hit my head against the wall trying to do this.

I'm not doing any high tech courses atm so hopefully I can understand the most basic things.

Thanks for your answer and I will read your blog posts!

I have a lot more reasons to prefer Captivate over Storyline, but that will not help you.

You need to understand some limitations in Fluid Boxes projects, some of which you already encountered so far.

  • You cannot use stacked objects in a normal fluid box.
  • Avoid static fluid boxes, which can have stacked objects but lose their fluidity.
  • Use multistate objects whenever possibble, but you cannot add objects in states if the multistate object is in a normal fluid box.
  • You cannot time objects for the rest of the project (although I have a workaround).
  • You cannot use the main master slide, but you can set up fluid boxes in daughter master slides. Explore the quizzing master slides which do have fluid boxes setup. Maybe read this blog post which I wrote when I started to explore the fluid boxes projects:
    https://blog.lilybiri.com/tips-for-fluid-quiz-slides

If you have more questions, please remember to insert a screenshot of the Timeline of the slide. Objects inserted in fluid boxes will look dimmed.
