Hi! I need help with the new Captivate version, please. I want to add a "Click to Reveal" widget to a quiz. Please note that I'm an adult education instructor and I'm not a computer expert.
On a help page (https://helpx.adobe.com/mt/captivate/help/add-click-reveal-captivate-project.html) towards the bottom of the page under the section "Add an Overlay," Step 4 says: "The Include in quiz checkbox in the Reporting section enables you to include the widget in a quiz so that you can report the quiz results on a Learning Management System (LMS)." So I know what I want to do is possible. I'm just having a problem doing it.
The problem is that I need to choose something on the slide in order to bring up the "Reporting" section and the "Include in Quiz" checkbox. I'm able to choose:
I have tried selecting all these options (separately) and adding them to the quiz, but when I preview the file, I choose the correct answer and the Quiz Results slide always shows that I missed a question. (I have 2 other Quiz slides and they work perfectly. I have tried removing those 2 slides and it still does not work.)
I am NOT able to view the Reporting section/Include in Quiz checkbox when simply selecting the image ("click to reveal card container") or the overlay ("click to reveal overlay").
Can someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong?? Thank you SO much!!

I am not sure what you want to include in the quiz but for me almost all items on the overlays allow to set up reporting and create links. On my monitor I always have to scroll down in the Properties to find the Reporting section which is at the bottom.
There are some typos in the Help page, which is indeed not very user friendly but that is my personal opinion. Terminology is confusing: you don't add scoring to the widget but to components on the overlays. It is also very annoying that 'Show score at end of quiz' is not functional in Quiz Preferences if you don't have a regular quiz slide. At least it is not functional for me, I needed to add a T/F question to be able to see the Score slide during testing. You can hear that I am not a fan at all of this new version, due to the fact that I know how professional and multi-featured the previous versions are. This version is clearly aimed at another audience.
Since you hare an adult instructor (I used to be professor in a university college but coached a lot of training in companies) why would you score a Click to Reveal widget. Just curious... For Click and Reveal I like to track if the learner has clicked all items, maybe to allow a Next button to appear only if all have been viewed, but a score?

Thank you so much for your message! I agree that this version is aimed at another audience. Captivate Classic had so much more customization, options, etc.
Scoring a widget
Thank you for explaining that you don't add scoring to the widget, but to the components on the overlay. However, I have tried adding each overlay component (separately) to the quiz, and when previewing, it still says I'm missing the question. Which component should I be adding scoring to?
Showing the score slide
You mentioned that you're not able to show the Score slide at the end of the quiz without a regular quiz slide. I'm able to do this--but I originally had a regular quiz slide and later deleted it, and the Score slide remained.
About why I'm scoring a widget
I'm an Anthropologist, and instead of being a professor at a university, I have my own small online business teaching Anthropology courses to the general public. These courses are aimed at adults (18+) who want to learn about Anthropology, but don't want to go to college and earn a degree in it. Since my students (currently about 3,000 of them) are taking these courses mostly for fun/personal enrichment/etc., the courses are very different from a traditional university course in Anthropology. For example, these self-paced courses have a competency-based approach, and students are guaranteed to succeed in passing the course with at least an 80% (as long as they have made the effort). The goal of the course is for the students to learn Anthropology in a fun and accessible way, not to challenge them with difficult questions or essays etc. that you would find in a typical university course.
I know that this seems VERY strange to other university professors, but the discipline of Anthropology is currently trying very hard to reach a general audience. This is my contribution to that initiative, and it has been very well received by the Anthropology community! I am currently in the process of re-making my current courses into Captivate format, and I'm creating many new courses as well. I hope to have about 25 courses by the time I'm finished.
Now that you know the way my courses work, here's how I'm using scored widgets. After each video lecture, there is an "Interactive Activity," where students practice using the knowledge from that lecture. These activity slides include widgets (like cards, hotspots, click to reveal, drag and drop) and interactive components (buttons, checkboxes). The student is able to try each activity slide over and over until they get the answer correct. So their grade for the Interactive Activity will always be 100%. These Interactive Activities prepare the students for the Unit quizzes.
Here's an example. In one Click to Reveal slide, students are given 3 options with a circular image and text for each option. They need to select the image/text that has the correct definition of Applied Anthropology. I encourage them to try and get the correct answer on the first try. If they choose an incorrect answer, the overlay explains that this choice is not correct. If they choose the correct answer, the overlay tells them that this answer is correct. Only the correct answers are graded--not the incorrect answers, so they are not penalized for choosing an incorrect answer.
The other Interactive Activity slides with the other widgets/interactive components work the same way. I'm able to include these other options in a quiz and add scoring, but for some reason, I can't get the Click to Reveal scoring to work.
I would appreciate any guidance you can provide on which overlay component I should be adding scoring to in these Click to Reveal slides. Thank you so much!
Note: I've included 2 screenshots of Interactive Activity slides, just in case you are interested. As these are the first 2 activity slides that a student encounters, they are very, very easy to answer.

Why should I find this strange? You are assuming that I am a professor like in the USA which is not at all the case. I live in Flanders and got a lot of freedom to set up my courses. My goal was to get students engaged and taking responsibility for their learning cycle. My peers didn't always like my methods, but in many cases students did. The focus of UK and USA on essays is certainly not mine.
AFAIK neither flip cards nor click/reveal have ever been meant to be used as quiz slides. They are just a way to present more information and giving the learner sort of control about the sequence of that information and the number of times they watch it. I could explore more, but find this new version so limited, crashes all the time probably due to my non-US keyboard which is not responding to the normal shortcut keys in Captivate. That has never been a problem in previous versions.
I understand what you want to do, but wouldn't use those widgets for that purpose. Use normal images which you use as buttons. You can add another state with the explanation if wanted. Add a score only to the correct image. With an Animation you could simulate the flipping. That was the way I would create it in older versions as well. I could explore more to find a workaround, but with all those crashes... My focus is still on version 11.5.5.553 for all my consultancy jobs. I am not an expert in version 12.

Oh, that is amazing that you are in Flanders and have so much freedom with your courses!! I'm glad to hear your students liked your methods. Oh no--I'm so sorry to hear that the new version of Captivate crashes all the time for you. Thank you for explaining the purpose of the click to reveal and other interactive options. And thank you so much for the suggestion on using normal images as buttons! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Have a great day!!

Indeed, using images which can be buttons just by adding an interaction to them, would be a much easier way. Use a media block. Each image can be a multistate, you create your flip cards yourself but have lot more control over the scoring.
