Why do the numbers indicating the minutes and seconds in the timeline frequently disappear? This is very frustrating because while the numbers are not being shown, I cannot click the desired time point in order to move the scrubber to that position in the timeline. This must be a bug right? Is anyone quality controlling this software?

Which version do you use? I did see this problem described a couple of times on the forum, but didn't experience it neither in the latest version of 9 nor in 2017.
Did you try to reset the workspace? Can you clear the Preferences? Run the file appropriate for your OS which you can find in the subfolder 'Utils' under the installation folder.

Not sure yet about whether it is present in Cp 2017 but it happens to me all the time in Cp9 as well, but usually only on fairly longish slides of more than a minute in duration.
To get the timeline numbers back, I usually just grab the scroll bar at the bottom of the slide timeline and jiggle it back and forth slightly.

Captivate 2017 is the one I am using. Version 10.0.0.192.
Wiggling the scroll bar seems to do the trick though, thanks!

I use CP9 and this used to happen once in a while and I would fix it by restarting the program, but lately it's been happening all the time and even in 30 second slides, which is very frustrating because not even restarting CP works now.
Anyways, wiggling the scroll bar definitely works, thanks for the tip!
Hopefully this has been fixed in CP2017? We shouldn't have to play with the scroll bar to see the numbers from the beginning

I can confirm it hasn't yet been fixed in CP2017. I've been dealing with it lots today, and the wiggling trick is starting to get very finicky... (The numbers only reappear when letting go of the slider at some very specific position or speed or combination of both...)
What's most annoying to me is not just being unable to see the numbers, but not being able to click that area in order to position the playhead.
I really hope this gets fixed soon for CP2017!

I truly believe it is a problem, but must confess that I didn't have this experience in 2017 yet and only very rarely in CP9, where it happened a lot in CP8. Since it is a Refresh problem, could it be due to having better system features? Just a reflection... the minimum requirement sin the Adobe documentation are definitely too low especially if you are creating big projects.

The specs I have should be sufficient for software such as Captivate.
For example, I can edit 4K video in Final Cut Pro and everything is buttery smooth, but duplicating a text caption in Captivate takes several seconds and requires a progress bar pop-up window...
I believe problems like this are linked to using the version of Captivate for macOS. It has been stated before that Captivate runs poorly on Mac compared to Windows, for whatever reason.

Sure, I am a die hard Windows (and NVidia) user.
