Timing Issue

Community Beginner ,
Mar 02, 2016 Mar 02, 2016

I'm having an issue with time.  The slide is playing as it should, but after 1 second the play button in the skin changes as if it was paused.  The slide continues to play, but the time doesn't count unless the play button is clicked or the "Text Entry Submit" button is clicked.  Hasn't anyone experienced this before?

Audio is not paused by the pausing point of an interactive object, common misunderstanding. That is why I asked to see a screenshot of the timeline. You can pause the audio with the Pause button on the playbar (or with a custom Pause button that uses the Pause command). An interactive object, waiting for an action of the user will not pause the audio, it will pause the slide. Objects that are timed to appear after that pausing point of the interactive object will not appear.

Can you show the timeline of that slide? When you say 'play' do you perhaps mean that the audio is continuing?

Yes, the audio is still playing even though it is paused

So it pauses when the interactive object appears?  If I move the object towards the end of the timeline I guess that would work?

Please, post a screenshot of the timeline, and I'll try to explain. Are you new to Captivate? Understanding the timeline is very important.

I'm a Storyline user, but I'm starting to use Captivate as well.

The Text Entry Box at the top of the stack of layers is pausing at 1.5secs. The audio starts to play from the start of the slide and will continue playing until the end. The Text animation that is timed at about 18secs will never appear until the user clicks the Submit button of the TEB and the playhead is released (I don't know which actions you specify for that TEB, nor if it is validated).

It depends on what you want: if you want the playhead to continue at its speed of 30FPS, until later on the slide, you'll have to move the pausing point of the TEB. That can be done by dragging, but much more precisely using the Timing Properties panel.

BTW each authoring tool has its own work flows. Try to learn about the timeline and use of the Library which is lacking in StoryLine and very useful. Here is a link to a very old blog post about the Timeline. Now the Effects timelines are included within the main Timeline in CP9 but the rest of the article is still valid.
