TOC in 2017 not working?

New Here ,
Jul 19, 2017 Jul 19, 2017

I'm new to Captivate myself. This is my first post and I have a similar question regarding TOC.

I'm using Captivate 2017 and I have set up my TOC to do one and only one thing: I want to use it for navigation. I've turned on navigation and I do not have any folders. I just want to go from the first slide to the second slide when the user clicks.

However, when I run the project, nothing happens at all. When the user runs the cursor over the TOC items, nothing highlights and these are not clickable links.

What am I doing wrong?

I branched your question to a new thread, because that other thread was very old (CP5 was in 2009).

Which settings do you choose for the TOC?

Make sure that 'Enable Navigation is checked. If you want them only to go back to slides they already visited, you can check the option 'Navigate Visited Slides only'? The option 'Self-paced Learning' allows bookmarking if you don't use a LMS.

Hi Lilybiri and thank you for your reply! I'm a couple of weeks into my 30-day Captivate 2017 trial period and, honestly, I've learned SO much. I'm definitely spending 2/3rds of my time with my nose in blog posts, forums and YouTube and only 1/3rd actually creating useful content at this point. But I'll get there.

I did make a couple of tweaks to my TOC based on your suggestions and also removed my pre-test which seemed to have an over-powering effect on the course I'm building. I'll do branching in another way. And yes --- all those things in combination did the trick! My TOC works now as expected.

I can only imagine how boring it must be to have the same "rank beginner" questions over and over. THANK YOU again for taking the time to reply to mine! My very first! And fixed so quickly!

Both Pretest and Branch aware feature will disable all navigation, as well by playbar as by TOC.

Captivate is an application with so many features and functionality (largely underestimated by most outsiders and new users) that you need to take learning time and I congratulate with your attitude! It is not boring at all to answer questions (or I wouldn't do it), every learner has another approach, learning paths can be very different.

May I point you to one of my recent articles, where I summarize the three most important stumbling blocks for newbies?
