Hi,

I have downloaded Adobe Captivate 11.8 (subscription) to work on a courseware. I have saved it as cptx format. I have another laptop which is currrently using Adobe Captivate (2019 release) update 5. I used it to open the file and unable to do so, with the error shown in the attached image. May I know is there any solution to open the file using  Adobe Captivate (2019 release) update 5? Thanks

Not really.  You need to upgrade the other laptop by installing Captivate 11.8 there as well.  Both must be on the same version of Captivate.

Captivate is BACKWARD compatible in that later versions of Captivate can usually open files created with earlier versions.  But it is not FORWARD compatible.  So, earlier versions cannot open files created in later versions.  That's why you are seeing this error message.

Although both versions are under the common label 'CP2019' it is impossible to open a 11.8 project in 11.5, nor opening a 11.5 project in 11.0. Those are the three main releases under CP2019. Only the smaller patch releases are compatible within a main release. I know that this is very confusing, it was a lot easier before Adobe started indicating versions by their year of release (CP2019 was released in Fall 2018).
