Hello:
I am building a series of screens that have individual photos of 12 people - one per screen - up in the upper left corner. I liked where one of them was going, so I made it an informal template, stripping out the text but leaving all objects, and pasting it in where I needed it.
I finished one using the template and went to delete the photo that had come over when I copied the original. I can't select it. It does not appear on the master slide. It does not appear anywhere I've looked. Where is it? How do I get rid of it? I can always start over and rebuild the template, but I would like to know where the blasted thing went - and why.
Thanks -
Anne

Can you explain what you mean by a 'template'? I hope it is not a cptl file?
If you are talking about just duplicating slides and switching images on the duplicates I don't understand what happens. But to help you really need to understand your workflow.
BTW: did you try to search for that unwanted image in the Library (right-click menu)?

By "template" I mean not a cptl file, but a format to use. I duplicated a slide, then deleted all the text and images specific for that slide. I duplicated that and I use that for building more slides. However, I left one image on the slide - and that's the one that I can't remove, for some reason.
I deleted it from the library and saved the project, and it still appears on the slides. It is not selectable, and it does not appear on the master slide.
I'm attaching a screen shot. The photo in the upper left is the stubborn one that won't leave. The one in the top middle is the one I want to paste there.

Wonder if it has been merged into the background?
Can you try to copy/paste a duplicate slide to a new project with the same resolution and theme?
Normally it should be possible just to point to another image when you select the original image. But since you cannot select it, it seems to be part of the background.

Questions that come to mind:
Could there be a duplicate of that image in the library? Has that original slide been deleted or does it still exist? Check the timing properties for the first slide where this image appears (if that original slide is still there) Could it be timed for "rest of project"? Could it have been covered by another element so it's not immediately visible?
