Publishing as HTML5, rollovers don't work but video does work; Publishing as Flash, videos don't work but rollovers do. REALLY? They were working fine a week or two ago. Captivate 9, IE and Chrome (version 53...) browsers, Win 10. When I publish as an exe, both videos and rollovers work the way they used to--just fine. Something is wrong. Flaky. Unsettling.
Might it have anything to do with 9.02 upgrade? Help. 90 slides, 20 videos. NOT starting over.

Getting tired of asking this, but...
When you did the upgrade to Cp 9.0.2 did you follow all instructions in the Release Notes about resetting Preferences and Layouts folders?
Did you change the settings on your LMS or web server to now allow the JSON mimetype? (New requirement for 9.0.2)

Probably like many others you have responded to, I did not see any instructions in the release notes nor do I know where to find them to check/reset folders. It isn't typical when upgrading software to have to make manual adjustments to preferences and folders. Anyone know where to find these instructions?

If you're going to be a continuing user of Adobe Captivate, you'd better get used to the fact that anytime you update this software there are always some housekeeping jobs you need to perform. It might not be common practice with lots of other software applications, but it IS with this one and has been now for several years. You will save yourself a lot of angst if you always follow this regime after any Cp update, no matter how minor the update might seem to be.

What on earth does step 3 of the installation release notes mean?
3. In the upgraded projects, old interactions should be replaced with new interactions.
Are ALL previous interactions now "old" and needing to be replaced? I have hundreds of them... If they all now need to be redone, this is the most amateurish application release ever experienced. THAT release should have come with a major WARNING notice. I would never have upgraded.

Having attended the "housekeeping jobs" that Captivate requires users perform when doing upgrades, the problems remain.

Might it have anything to do with 9.02 upgrade? Help. 90 slides, 20 videos. It runs standalone--without any internet connection (so no webservers to run video). It is an interactive user manual, structured around actual tasks our users do with our laser templating/CAD system. When "on the job" and needing to find a quick answer, they are rarely able to get an internet connection, so it has to run standalone. Currently at 750MB, will probably reach I GB before final completion.

If your HTML5 output is targeted at mobile device users, there's no point using rollovers. (Perhaps Adobe feels the same way.)
As for the video not working in HTML5, have you tried uploading your output to a web server and testing from there? Lots of things in HTML5 need to be tested from a web server, not locally.
And when you DO get around to putting your 9.0.2 HTML5 output on a web server you need to be aware that it now uses JSON files. So you will need to make sure your web server is set up to allow that mime-type otherwise nothing will work.

RodWard, Appreciate your responding, but what I am building is a standalone Interactive User Manual, that resides on laptops that have no connection to the internet. Videos and Rollovers worked before the upgrade in both HTML5 and HTM/Flash outputs. Now they only work when published as an EXE.

Yes there have definitely been changes to the HTML5 output introduced with the last update. Adobe's view seems to be more and more that HTML5 users WILL be delivering from a web server and they WILL be targeting mobile devices.
It would seem the recent changes are NOT going to be compatible with your intended use case.
By the way, the issue with videos not working in Flash output could be due to not having the publish folder location set up in Flash Global Security. Have you checked that?

Located a Flash Player Control Panel. Added folder to Trusted Location Settings, No change with either IE or Chrome, htm/flash or HTML5.

I know you said that you wanted this content to play locally for end users, but have you at least checked whether the content DOES work properly from a web server? (This could indicate that your issues are related to browser security.)

Thanks RodWard for still thinking about this. If it were browser security, I think it would have been a problem before the upgrade to 9.02. I've only experienced the problems since that upgrade. Nonetheless, I am hopeful all will be well from a web server, because we would also like to have this available online. I'll test that in the next day or so.

Hi Art,
Rollover objects are not supported in HTML5.
I could not reproduce the issue with videos. Can you share more detail? Is it with specific video?
Thanks

Hi Tarun,
I have 20 different mp4 videos linked to various information slides. The mp4 videos are in the same folder as the .cptx file. I didn't place them there purposely. I think the system copies them there when I link a new video.
Linking a new video to see if that makes a difference in the published htm/flash's ability to find it was no help--still fails to run (when you click on video links, the loader just continues to run).
