Webcam recording present in timeline but not visible on slide?

After three video recordings my webcam video is not visible any more at the corresponding slide, neither in play mode nor in preview mode. When I click at the slide at the location where the webcam recording should be, I see a transparant selection frame and a recording identification. The timeline correctly shows the webcam video presence and it is marked as visible. Restarting my laptop did not solve this issue. Still no view.

Is my webcam video gone (e.g. memory issue) or hidden somewhere? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I saw this on my own system. I'm on Windows 10 and downloaded a video that I added to the slide using Video on the ribbon. the video plays in preview the first couple of times, then shows a black frame in place of the video.

My Fix: I cleared my cache (Edit > Preferences > Clear Cache), closed all other programs, reduced the number of slides to preview, and it worked.

A few questions come to mind:

  • Are you on iOS or Windows?
  • Can you check to see if you have enough memory to process the video?
  • Have you cleared the cache?
  • Did you publish the project and try to preview again, or preview a smaller range of slides (Edit > Preferences > Defaults > Preview Next 2 Slides)?
  • Did you close all other programs when previewing the project? Preview can max out the memory.

There can be many factors at play, but see if you can try a few of these solutions in combination to get it working again. Let me know how it goes, I look forward to hearing your results.

Thank you, Paulao, for your reply and tips. The answers to your questions are:

  • I am on Windows 10
  • I don't know how to check whether I have enough memory to process the video, Maybe you can help me here. Sound and video screen demo work properly, webcam visibility not.
  • I cleared the cash after your tip. Thank you.
  • I have just one slide per video. But I will remember this for future projects.
  • I closed all other programs.

In addition, I run Captivate 2019 as administrator. I freed hard disk space. I changed the video storage path to a second hard drive with plenty of space. Still the same problem. Webcame visible in the timeline but not on screen.
