Whats the difference between the two Captivate Forums?

Enthusiast ,
Dec 13, 2016 Dec 13, 2016

HI Folks,

I was wondering if anyone from Adobe could chime in. What is the difference between the two Captivate Forums, this one that you can access from within Captivate, and the original one that still exists. I've been using both and had some strange results.

This one appears to have questions or posts that doesn't appear in the original one and vice-versa. Is that by design or just a bug.
This one appears to have a different point based system but it doesn't work as promoted, at least in my case anyways.
Point based scores are slightly different in each forum, is that by design or a bug?
Finally, is Adobe planning on phasing out the old one or keep both going?

I would have asked these questions privately, but I couldn't find  an e-mail link to ask anyone.

Cheers
Steve

The problem each of these communities are solving is quite different.

Jive is an Adobe wide online platform where users across all Adobe Products can report issues they encounter with product, where our community experts answer these queries.

Whereas eLearning Community is focused just on Captivate. This platform not just provides you to report issues but also to contribute at different levels. All the questions reported in eLearning Community is sync with Adobe Captivate Forum.

The Learning portal accepts more than only questions, but all questions are synched with the official Adobe forums where all applications have their specific forums. This makes your question bit irrelevant, I am answering your question from the 'old' Adobe forums, where I am active since many years.  Those forums are indicated as the 'Jive' forums. There are no 'two' forums at all. Hope this makes it clear? Normally the scoring for questions should be the same in the portal but for practical reasons I am mostly answering from the 'old' Jive forums (being a moderator and having more features to check and manage, accept/reject content).

Hi Lilybiri,

Thanks for the speedy response! I was unaware that you were the moderator, I just thought you were super knowledgeable and helpful. So to summarize, the "Learning Portal" is just that an area for users to share blogs, videos, updates and general Captivate knowledge etc? While this legacy forum is for question and answers only? Is that correct?  That would actually make sense!

Is there a moderator for the Learning Portal? Is that you as well?

Cheers

Steve

HI there

I'm not from Adobe. Hopefully you will see someone from Adobe chime in  on this. But here are my own observations and thoughts.

There seems to be lots of "fracking" with product support. Sure, Adobe operates this forum. What I see when clicking the "Community" link in the BBB, what I see appears to be more of a collection of different blogs and perhaps some video content.

Then you have a facebook group. And a few LinkedIn groups. There are some other groups sprinkled across the web. I believe at one point the Adobe team even created a Captivate area on the GetSatisfaction platform.

As far as "points" go, you are right. There is no correlation because these are each support platforms of their own. And just like the comedy show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", points really don't mean anything or matter or remotely correlate to anything truly meaningful. You can see a perfectly valid and helpful response from someone with zero points while seeing someone with a kazillion points steer you totally wrong. Just the nature of these beasts.

Cheers... Rick

Hi Captiva8r,

Thanks for input. I was unaware of the other groups/forums. I'm just still trying to wrap my head around this forum and the "Learning Portal".

Cheers

No, Steve I am one of the moderators, Captiv8r (Rick Stone) is also moderator, there there are a lot more. A moderator is not only for one Adobe app, in this case Captivate.. Personally I use a lot of Adobe applications

The learning portal wants to be more than just questions, here in the Adobe forums there is also a lot more than just question/answers but since you perhaps get here from the learning portal within Captivate (or from the URL of that portal) you probably never visit the other areas in the Jive forums.

As for the moderator on the learning portal, you should ask the question over there. I thought that the Adobe team is moderating the portal, but may be wrong.

The problem each of these communities are solving is quite different.

Whereas eLearning Community is focused just on Captivate. This platform not just provides you to report issues but also to contribute at different levels. All the questions reported in eLearning Community is sync with Adobe Captivate Forum.

Trial / Novice Users – While talking to Captivate trial users or users who are getting started, we found that they are struggling to get the right & relevant information to make a right decision in short period of time. Also as the content is spread across different places, it’s difficult for new users to find the relevant information. This platform provides a centralized place for all the information, users are looking for.

Community Leaders/Intermediate users – Community leaders have great experience to share their knowledge. eLearning community provides the platform for them to share their knowledge by writing blog posts, tips & tricks, videos to troubleshoot issues & to showcase their work. This would greatly makes an impact to all users who are looking to learn, share & grow.

We have just launched this community, there is lot more features planned to build over this. Overall this helps to engage with experts, browse blogs, write testimonials all in single place https://elearning.adobe.com

We have also integrated this eLearning Community right inside the product. So new users or trials users don’t need to worry about finding the links for different categories (like Adobe forum link, CP blogs, Videos etc.. ). If they have any query to ask or to browse the content, they can do it within Captivate product. They also get the notification inside captivate product for the questions asked or when other users perform an action on his/her posts!

On points – There are quite an exciting incentives for all users who contribute to eLearning community. Please check the activities which would leads points & levels - https://elearning.stage.adobe.com/levels/

Also i already see you have shared your work on showcase last week. This has been viewed more than 100 times now with few comments.
