When duplicating multi-state object more than once project no longer visible in preview

I have a multistate object with 10 states. I want to duplicate that object 5 times.

When I duplicate it once (i.e. there are two instances of it) the project continues to preview just fine. When I duplicate again so that there are three instances, when I try to preview the project it's just white - there's nothing there.

If I delete the third instance (so that two instances remain) it previews fine. I can swop the different instances in and out of the project - as long there are no more than two (desn't matter which two) it previews fine.

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Update:

As an experiment I removed all my mutlistate images. I then created a quick new one with just 4 states. I duplicated this 2 times so I had 3 instances. Previewed absolutely fine.

I then deleted all the objects except one. I brought the number of states up to ten, then duplcated twice so that I had 3 instances of the 10 state multistate object. Now it doesn't preview.

So there seems o be an issue related to the number of states your multistate object has...?

Which version are you using: 9 or 2017? I want to double-check.

The project I am working in at the moment is very complex. I tried recreating all this in a new project and I had no problems. I'm not sure how to trouble shoot this.

Strange things are happening! I decided to work on other aspects of the project for a while. I had a working version of the project, without the multistate objects.

I added some smart shapes, grouped them and added some animation.

Same problem - white screen when I preview. Delete the newly added items and - no problem!

Weird....

New disovery: It all works when I "Preview as HTML5 in Browser" but not (what I was trying earlier) when I choose "From this slide". I can live with that, though it's weird. Do you think this will result with prolems with my final project once finished?

OK, our mails crossed.

Is this a normal, non-responsive project, and do you want HTML5 output? I am asking this because all Preview methods except F11 (Previewh HTML5 in Browser) and in SCORM Cloud will use a temporary SWF for previewing. Maybe the problem is with SWF output, not with HTML5 output. DId you enable the Flash player in your browser?

It is a normal , non-responsive project and I do want only HTML5 output. My project is a learning exercise for me so there is no client to get upset if it doesn't work 100%! I think I will carry on with just HTML5 preview. Like you say, it looks like SWF isn't working. Thank you very much for your help.

It would be much easier if there was also a choice for normal projects to have other Preview methods working in HTML5. I logged a feature request for it. It is perfectly possible because all Preview methods for responsive projects use a temporary HTML5 file. Hoping for next patch or release.

I couldn't reproduce the problem. Due to your last answer it looks like the project is getting corrupted somehow. That can be due to many causes. You could search for the corrupt slide(s) and objects by hiding slides in bunches, to see if you get it to work. I know, this can lead to problems in case of projects with a lot of advanced/shared actions. Another way is to copy/paste to a new blank project with the same resolution and using the same theme. Preferably not paste all slides at once.
