Where is Button Action in Captivate 8?

I am working on a responsive project in Captivate 8.

In the Properties panel of the slides you can select Style, Action and Options.  When you selct Action, you find 'on Enter' and 'on Exit'.

On some of my slides there are buttons.  Properties for Buttons are Properties, Timing and Position.  None of these show Action.

The Properties section contains Style Name, Fill, Stroke, Character and  Shadow and Reflection, but according to the manual, this section should also contain an Action section.  It doesn't.

Action is not to be found under Timing and Position either.

Obviously I am missing something.  Where can I set actions for a button in a responsive project?

I had the same problem. The block that shows Style Actions Options was totally blank. It happened to me when I first started using CP8 so I didn't realize those tabs were missing. The place holder for the tabs was there but not the tabs. I closed and reopened CP8 and all was well again. Hasn't happened since though so I can't speculate on how it happened.

Hi Moked,

Objects properties are listed under Properties panel only.

Probably you have not selected the button object to view its properties.(or have not clicked on the "Action" tab listed under the Properties panel)button action accordian.png

Button properties are listed as 3 tabs(Style, Action and Option) under Properties panel at Right hand side of the canvas.

Style Tab lists all the formating options for the text in botton. and"Action" tab will list the On success action options.

Select button and click on the Action tab under Properties panel to view the action option for any object.

Thanks

I have Captivate 19 and I do not have an Action tab in properties at all.  I have propertoes panel open, the button selected and there is no "action".  My button currently does nothing and I need to add the action to exit the lesson.  Any suggestions?

This is really an old thread about CP8. At this moment the most recent release is version 12, but I suspect you are on version 11. That version had 3 main releases: 11.0; 11.5 and 11.8. Can you please mention the correct version number, which you can find under Help, About Captivate?

All 'buttons' (that version has 6 types of buttons) have an Actions tab in the Properties panel. The tab which is active by default is the Style tab. Click on the Actions tab to activate it:

In the case of the button in the screenshot, the number of Attempts is set at Infinite, which means that this button only has a Success event. If you reduce the number of attempts, you'll also get a Last Attempt event. In the example the action On Success (which means when the button is clicked) is set to the default 'Go to Next Slide'. Open the dropdown list and you'll find also the action 'Exit'.

Closing and opening Captivate 8 solved the problem.

Thanks for your replies!

I am having this same issue in Captivate 2017.  The Actions option is missing.  I closed and re-opened Captivate 2017 and it is still missing.  If I create an actual "button" from the object>button menu, I get the actions option, but I cannot make my own shape and button.  Any other ideas?

If you want to use a shape as a button, you have to check the option 'Use

as button' in the Properties panel. To create a custom image button google

for work flow, you need 3.images ending on _up, _over and _down. Nothing

new, both explanations I gave were valid since version 6=
