Why is Captivate 8 still crashing on Windows?

We are running Adobe Captivate 8 on Windows computers. We are opening it as Run as administrator.

Adobe Captivate 8 is on our C: Drive.

  • Why does it run so slow?
  • Why is it always crashing? Many times a dialog box comes up that says "waiting for application/close application."

Is there a patch that Adobe offers for this problem? Should I call tech support?

There has to be a way to make Adobe Captivate 8 run smoothly on our computers.

Thanks for your help.

Running the 32 bit version of any software limits how much of your RAM the software can address. For example, even if I had 16GB of RAM, the 32 bit version of Captivate might only be able to use a few of those gigabytes. It could limit how large a file you could work on and the speed at which it operates.

Many networked corporate PCs are configured to store your "My Documents" folder to a networked drive. This means the default location for Adobe Captivate to publish, save, and cache might be pointing to a network folder rather than a local folder. I would check this. Having your IT department setup a folder that is just local can solve many performance problems.

I have always found that the system requirements for Adobe Captivate is somewhat subjective. Yes Adobe Captivate will run under the following system requirements:

https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/system-requirements.html

However as you develop your project file to contain more and more content (objects, images, audio, advanced actions, and so on) Captivate will consume more and more system resources.

My advice is to maximize everything. For example, upgrade your hard drive to an SSD; don’t settle with 4GB of ram, bump it up to 16GB; Don’t run the 32 bit version when you can run the 64 bit; and so on.

Thank you pbdw1969.

I'm curious, why would I run the 64 bit version over the 32 bit version? Just better quality?

Thanks for your help.

Which windows version? Captivate 8 is not declared compatible with Win10.

Are you using the last version 8.0.3? Is the cache folder also on the C-drive? You talk about the Documents folder, but not about the Cache folder. Both paths can be checked in the Preferences, General settings.
