Audio from event video still playing on timeline when the video paused using the skin

We are wanting to use event videos in captivate which will have their own skin so the user can pause, skip etc. through the video.

We are adding the audio to the event video and this is fine, it plays well.

But if we pause the video using the video skin, then audio carries on playing as if it is on the timeline.

Is there anyway that the skin interacts with the timeline or someway to mute the timeline and just use the event video skin.

This is really frustrating as really the audio should stop when the video is paused.

Thanks

Paul

Event video is playing totally independently from Captivate's controls. That is the reason for its dediated conrol panel. If you want to be able to control video with Captivate functionality (playbar or custom pause button) you need to use synchronized video. Before CP2019 that was indicated as Multislide video (but can be on one slide), in CP2019 it is labeled as Slide Video.

Maybe this blog post expplaining Pausing Captivate's timeline can offer you more details:

I have also an interactive tutorial, based on one of the presentations I gave about Timeline:

Hi lilybiri,

yes, we want it to be independent, but when pausing the event video the audio continues, like it is on the timeline, we have added the audio to the event video in captivate, not externally.

thanks

I don't understand: how can you add audio to event video? Can you show the timeline of that slide?

Hi Lilibiri,

We use the properties pane to add the audio to the event video, like you would to a shape, so under options we can add the audio to the event video.

Is this not how it should be done, should the audio be added to the video before the video is added to the slide?

Thanks

Paul

Have more articles about Timeline, and types of audio but it looks like you didn't understand what is under the links I provided.

You added object audio to the Event video. Object audio can be partially controlled by Captivate, is not totally independent like Event video. Object audio plays when the object is visible, stops when the object disappears.  Do not attach object audio to Event video. You need to use a video tool to embed the audio IN the video.  Event video reacts to the pausing button in its dedicated control panel, the object audio can react to the Pause button on the Captivate playbar.
