Captivate 2017 not recording correctly after Windows 10 update

Windows 10 build 1607 Captivate 2017

After installing Windows 10 updates KB4509091 and KB4507460 Captivate is not capturing most of the movements and clicks during a software simulation. It sometimes starts recording after the first 6-7 pages should have been recorded, misses at least 70% of all clicks, motions and movements. It worked perfectly before the updates and I have made no changes to any settings. Have uninstalled and clean reinstalled with shutdowns between each twice, problem still persists. Anyone else have this problem?

Is this 10.01.299, the only authorized version at this moment for CP2017?

You are capturing  a software simulation in demo mode. I would recommend to replace it by a Video Demo, for better quality and other reasons. Especially FMR (Full Motion Recording) slides can lead to weird issues when published to HTML5.

I'm sorry, cannot check anymore in CP2°17. Can you verify the full version number, and if necessary update?

Do you do a lot of software simulations in Captivate? I am trying to provide a “watch it” demo, no interaction from audience or assessments. I have usedCamtasia before (which I loved) and am finding Captivate very cumbersome.  What are your thoughts, any pointers?

You posted similar content elsewhere. Answered there with a recommendation to use Video Demo for a passive demo, not software simultion. Problem is with the FMR slides for HTML5 output. Although they are converted from the original SWF format to MP4 on publishing, they still cause issues in some situations. Video Demo is the real concurrent of Camtasia for passie video. Camtasia has more bells and whistles, but integration with Captivate is lot more cumbersome than integrating Video Demo.

Thanks so much for your response!! Do you know where there are samples of video demos done (of software demonstrations) in Captivate that I could view? I would like to compare with other people’s work. Thanks!

Lilybiri — Thanks for sharing your work! I really like to see people’s work with Captivate.

Miraculously an Adobe Support Specialist called me out of the blue to offer me a free one on one session on Adobe Captivate. I do a lot with Adobe products, so perhaps that’s how they got my name. Anyway, it was perfect timing. They spent an hour doing a virtual one on one with me. I realize now that I should be doing video demos for the type of demos I’m working on. I’m doing demos of pretty simplistic software application.

I had been doing a filmstrip (slides, some are static some were simulations) style Captivate project. I realize I can continue to do the filmstrip style but can use video demos for slides where I’m showing how to use the application.

Updated to Captivate 2019 and the original problem still exists. Software demos do not capture movements and clicks, losing at least 70% of all movements.

Which type of software are you capturing? If it is meant to be a passive demonstration, please use Video Demo, not a software sim in Demo mode.
