Are there any good resource which list all of the tags and attributes and describe what each is used for?  I would like do more custom effects but I’m playing a guessing game as to what all is available and how to use what I find. Anything will help. Online resource, hard copy book…Anything.

After some more digging I found the following resources.

https://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/mx/effects/Effect.html

https://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/geom/Matrix.html

It contains some really useful information about the Motion class (as well as others). The tags/attributes with their values and a description of them. This is the sort of thing I was looking for.

Do not really understand what  you want? You can create a custom effect by editing existing effects, by combining effects in one custom effect etc.. In many cases you will need to create a custom effect if you want to apply it by an advanced or shared action.  What do you need?

Found this page in the reference pdf:

I have seen how to use the preset effects to create different effects. But what I am wanting is documentation on the XML file(s) that are used by Captivate to generate the effect. I want to be able to edit the XML directly not rely on the pre-canned stuff. Thank you (BTW) for your quick reply.

There is no documentation available for the XML files. I seldom use them directly, find it easier to edit the effects and create a custom effect from a sequence of edited effects on the timeline. If you look at that blog and at many other use cases of custom effects on my site, you'll see what is possible. Here is a game based on a timeline effect:

For motion effects I always use Guides to position the different points of the motion path:

For older Captivate versions, there was a manual in pdf format, which contained some information about the structure of the xml files for effects. Not sure if there still is such a pdf for the recent version at all, and if so, if it still contains this info. You might want to search for some older Captivate manual.

That information seems to be more related to ActionScript coding, not HTML5.

True.  However the description of the XML tags and attributes do apply. If there is a better resource I'd love to know about it.

I had posted this link but it seems to have disappeared.

Scroll down quite a lot to find this:
