This may be a stretch, but I was curious if there was a way to change a slide state after a certain amount of time.

Depending on your version of Captivate, you could use the Delay Next Action within Captivate.

Delay is a good command, as long as you are aware of the fact that it will never be paused, not by Pause, not by a Pausing point of a slide or an interactive object?. That may be a show stopper. Do not use the playbar, which has a pause button. Do not have an interactive object with a pausing point within the time delay. More in :
