Why is my downloaded font not appearing properly when the project is played? It always works, but I did a responsive project instead of a blank one and for some reason it's not keeping the font when the project is played.

When you design a responsive design project you need to either use a web safe font such as Arial or Times New Roman for it to display properly. The reason any font works with blank projects (non-responsive) is because all text items are converted to images. This doesn't happen with responsive because when displayed on different sized screens, your text needs to resize and wrap to next row. Your font you installed on your computer is only on your computer. It isn't necessarily on other computers, smartphones or tablets. The solution is to use a web based font like the ones available from Typekit.com. Typekit compatibility was added with Adobe Captivae 2017.

Is there a reason why one of the downloaded fonts works but not the other?

Static text in a blank project, which is text not containing variables, can use any font because the text is converted to images. It looks like you never used dynamic text, not even the score slide which is a typical example of text generated on runtime, where the font will only be displayed correctly if the learner has an identical font installed on his system.
You didn't tell which type of responsive project you use (Fluid Boxes or Breakpoint Views) but in most case text will always be dynamic. Use only websafe fonts (they are in the dropdown list grouped) or Typekit fonts if you have CP2017 or later. Beware: Tk fonts have different plans, the free plan coming with Captivate is limited both for the number of fonts you can use and for the domain you can add for the use.
