It seems as though my quiz slides won't progress until the audio is complete. How can I allow the end-user to complete the quiz without having to listen to the entire audio? The only solution I can see to work around this issue is to show the playbar at the bottom. This may work for now, but it does not encourage the end-user to complete the quiz. I would like to have the quiz force the end-user to complete the quiz and progress at their own pace.

Trying to explain although lot of information is missing, so it is bit guessing if this is your problem.
Quiz slides have a pausing point: look at the Timeline and you'll see that pausing point probably at 1.5secs. Playhead will pause there to allow the Two-step Submit Process. More details here:

You talk about audio, I suspect you mean Slide Audio, which is visible in the Timeline as an individual timeline (waveform) under the slide timeline. The pausing point will NOT pause the slide audio.
When you complete the Submit process, the playhead is released and the actions specified in the Quiz Properties (Success, Last Attempt or eventual the Retry). Success and Last Attempt action are by default set to 'Continue', which means that all the frames after the pausing point need to be visited before getting to the next slide.
