How can you overwrite the current captivate course in the LMS with new content and maintain the current records of learners. I am trying to keep the old course data/record of completion. When I upload the course to the LMS it just creates a new course, I need it to overwrite the old course. We are trying to update all the courses in the LMS to HTML5.

That is a question you will need to pose to your LMS Adminstrator, or on the support site for your LMS. LMSs all work differently when it comes to the uploading and creating courses. You might get some help here if you let us know what LMS you are using...

Each LMS is different in how it manages such things.  Unless someone on this forum is intimately knowledgeable about your specific LMS and can give you a precise answer, you will still need to talk to the LMS Administrator at your company.  And if they don't know the answer, then they will need to log a ticket with the technical staff at their LMS.

The reason most LMSs tend to wipe out the previous completion records when a course is updated is due to the fact that something about the course content and scoring parameters could easily have changed in the new version, and this then makes direct comparisons with results from the previous course version very problematic.

For example, your new course version might have a new quiz question that has an  Interaction Identifier that was not present in the previous course.  You may have changed an existing quiz question from one type of question to another (e.g. from True/False to Matching).  Your scoring percentage might have changed. Etc Etc.

Most LMSs have some way to deal with the update issue that does NOT require all users to redo the course.  But you need to ask what that preferred method is.
