Hi,

Question: Is there any way to "edit" the *.ZIP SCORM package to clear the expire date?

Background

Over a number of years we created a good number of English lessons with Captivate 8 and 9 and published them as SCORM ZIP files to our LMS, Skillar. Things were good.

A few months ago, we outsourced localization of the English *.CPTX files to have them translated into a number of languages.

We got the localized *.CPTX and *.ZIP files back recently, published the *.ZIP files to our LMS, Skilljar.

  • The ZIP file were generally OK
  • The loc company externally updated the Captivate XML and used external tools to update the *.ZIP files.

So we currently do not have functional *.CPTX files for many localized lessons.

  • We caught this a little bit ago, and the loc company is getting us functional *.CPTX files, but for now\immediately we do not have them.
  • We were working on having them update these, but until tonight, it was not urgent.

ISSUE

We were doing final tests today to go live over the weekend and started to see lessons in the LMS where the Captivate lesson would not play. We figured out the localization company used trial versions of Captivate and the lessons have just expired or are expiring.

  •      We were right on schedule, this is a big issue.

Having localized the lessons into a number of languages, this is many 100s of *.CPTX and *.ZIP files, the later of which have been published and tested on our LMS.

Our company has fully licensed versions of the Captivate 8 and 9.

The official way of resolving this, as far as I can tell, follows. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

  1. Open every *.CPTX file (Which we do not have for many of the lessons currently)
  2. Clear the Expiry date
  3. Save
  4. Publish to a local *.ZiP file
  5. Publish the updated local *.ZIP file to our LMS
  6. Sanity test the updated lesson
  7. Repeat for every localized lesson, of which there are many 100s.

Question: Is there any way to "edit" the *.ZIP file to clear the expire date?

Question: Is there any other way to get this done faster?

Thanks

The expiry date on output from a trial version of Captivate is usually set about 30 days from publication date.  But this date is not in the XML files that get published with the SCORM content.  It will be buried in the content.

Are you publishing to SWF or HTML5.  With SWF there's not going to be much you can do.  With HTML5 the code is fairly accessible but this particular function could be buried almost anywhere.

The simplest solution IS for you to get the CPTX files and republish from a licensed version of Captivate, even if you have to purchase a temporary subscription for your translators.
