CA Ignoring default installation language after update

New Here ,
Oct 22, 2024 Oct 22, 2024

After updating to 25.0 the app now only installs in Korean.

I'm on a Macbook Pro 2018 13" and MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1.

After updating and opening the app I found it was all in Korean language and not in English as it has always been until now.

I live in Korea, however I'm Swedish so my Creative Cloud/Adobe interafaces and OS language are in Swedish and I have my default app installation language set to English as it is the most convenient language to use as I frequently look up tutorials online.

I have tried reinstalling the app twice after rebooting my computer but it still installs in Korean. I have no idea what the source of this problem is as all my other Adobe apps updated to the 2025 version just fine and are still installed in English. Something with the localization settings must have been messed up in the new update?

I do speak Korean, but it still impacts my workflow quite a bit.

Hi. Just to confirm, in the Creative Cloud desktop app's Preferences > Apps, Default install language is set to Swedish, or on https://account.adobe.com/profile your Preferred languages > First language is set to Swedish, or both before installing Character Animator 2025 (v25.0) from Creative Cloud desktop app?

Hi thank you so much for your quick reply!

1) Creative Cloud desktop app's Preferences > Apps, Default install language is set to English (international)
2) https://account.adobe.com/profile your Preferred languages > First language was set to Korean
(it must have been so all along, without me realizing). I have no second language selected.
3) My Creative Cloud desktop app and the "Adobe Account" interface on the web are in Swedish though but I'm don't remember actually selecting Swedish in any setting anywhere. (Maybe it's set after the OS language?)

So these were my language settings before updating to Character Animator 2025 (v25.0).
I hope this clears things up!

In case of 2) this was a setting I was not aware even existed until now. I tried changing it from Korean into English (USA), uninstalling CA, rebooting and then reinstalling just to check if it would have any effect, but Character Animator still installs in Korean.

I went to check my OS's language preferences and it turns out that Korean was above English in the order of preferred languages. When I switched them around so English is above Korean, the language of Character Animator's interface changed into English without reinstalling the app!

It seems like Character Animator v25.0 as opposed to earlier versions of CA and other Adobe apps bases its UI language on the OS's language settings and not any of the Abobe's language settings.

I am now able to use the app as normal, but perhaps this is something that can be looked into to make the experience more streamlined and easier to understand in case other users have have several languages that they use on their machine too?

Thank you for your help though!

OK, thanks for the additional info, and glad you found a workaround. I'm surprised something changed. I've asked our Localization team to try to reproduce the issue.

I suppose if you had some spare time and wanted to see if reinstalling Character Animator 2024 (version 24.x) via the "..." > "Other versions" menu in Creative Cloud desktop app was still working as expected with the original order of OS languages, that could be an interesting data point, but I also understand if you don't want to given you have a workaround right now.

Thanks.

LATEST

I finished up work for the day and tried reverting to a previous version of Character Animator as you instructed (v24.6), and I put back Korean back above English in the OS system preferences, and this version seems to use Adobe's language settings as it started up in English just fine. I don't know how this stuff works, but on my system at least specifically v25.0 uses the system's language preferences for deciding the app's language. But yeah, a very surprising change indeed!
