characterizer edit not working

When I create a new character style in characterizer, or attempt to edit an existing one, the brush does not work. Trying to change what is hair, face, etc.. does not function.

Can you provide more details on your configuration...
* Which version of Character Animator are you using?
* Are you on macOS or Windows, and which versio of the OS?
* Are you using a mouse or stylus?
* So clicking the different brush types (Background, Face, etc.) doesn't change the selection, or something else?
* Does changing the Brush Size setting change the brush size cursor when hovering over the image?
* Does it not function to draw those regions above the image? i.e., does it not paint the selected brush color?
