Hi,
I have been reading numerous threads for hours now but can't find a proper fix so I would really appreciate it if someone could chime in.
My problem is that Character Animator doesn't recognise my webcam directly or through OBS virtual cam but it picks it up using ManyCam for some reason (would prefer not to rely on additional third-party software that just adds bloat to my system though).
I'm using a mirrorless camera connected via HDMI to an internal capture card which works fine for all other programs except Adobe.
Running Windows 10 without any anti-virus that could be causing a conflict and checked that the system settings weren't blocking any permissions either.
Tried using different wires, input ports, and reinstalling CA, the camera drivers, and OBS, but nothing seems to resolve it.
I would be very grateful for any help.

Character Animator is designed to automatically connect to devices that identify themselfs to Windows as a webcam. This includes nearly all USB-connected webcams. Unfortunately, pro cameras such as what you are describing sometimes don't advertise themselfs to the Windows OS as a webcam.
Tip: Ch uses the same internal Windows functionallity as the built-in "Camera" app. If the Windows Camera app can make use of your camera, then Ch should be able to use it as well.
In your case ManyCam seems a reasonable solution if it can present your mirrorless camera to the Windows OS as a webcam.

Hi,
I had the same problem with an Avermedia Framegrabber connected to a Sony Alpha 6300 cam.
My solution is: Settings (Windows) > Bluetooth and devices > cameras > choose your camera or framegrabber > open enhanced camera options > allow "multiple use at the same time"
This will get you a picture from your cam or framegrabber. Maybe you get an resolution error message. In this case try in the settings menu that is still opened
Select type of media, for example 1920x1080 30fps (don't let windows decide). Maybe try another provided resolution setting. This works for me.
Best regards
Chris

I'm using Windows 11. It seems that the "multiple use" option is not provided in windows 10.
