Arms not attached to body in Character Animator

Hi! I am a total noob. I'm having a bit of an issue following the OKSamurai tutorial. I've got my Illustrator puppet set up exactly like his, but when I import my character into CA, the arms won't attach no matter what I do. On his video, the arms are automatically part of the body as soon as it's importing.

I am attaching a screenshot of what my layers look like in AI and the issue in CA. I haven't made it to the official rigging part of the tutorial yet because my puppet isn't behaving as it should. This is driving me nuts! I have tried creating larger tabs at the shoulders to make sure the arms are intersecting, but no dice. Any ideas? I sure would appreciate it!

OK, I've figured it out on my own. For anyone encountering this using the same tutorial, the arms do NOT stay attached to the body in CA until you attach them in rig mode. I don't know why OK Samurai's tutorial has them attached immediately, but if you continue the tutorial and begin rigging the issue will be solved.
