I've created an illustrator puppet, but there are a lot of different variations that I want to keep in the puppet, but not necessarily see in the Rigging area in CA. Can I use the paste up area in Illustrator to 'hide' the different variations?

Character Animator will process all of the data that is in the file, whether it is visible or not. It is common to use swap sets to switch between visible and invisible objects, but if you are simply brainstorming, it might be better to have a second puppet or sinmply be prepared to delete the unused portions when you are content with the results.
