Is your Character Animator project folder in a path that is currently being synced (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.), backed up (CrashPlan, etc.), or indexed by some background process? If so, try temporarily disabling it or excluding the Character Animator project's path to see if the problem goes away.

What's the full path to your Character Animator project folder?

If you are using a virus checking program, see if there's an option to Exclude certain folders from being scanned. If so, add the \\life.pacificlife.net\life\Home\AD\bkohls\Mydocs\Adobe\Character Animator\Beta path as one of those folder paths. Or, you can temporarily disable virus checking just to do this quick test, then turn it back on.

If you are backing up the \\life.pacificlife.net\life\Home\AD\bkohls\Mydocs\Adobe\Character Animator\Beta folder, see if there's a way to exclude that folder in the backup software's preferences, or temporarily disable backups while you do this test.

Another option to try is to create a new Ch project (File > New Project) on your desktop to see if the problem still happens.
