Move a goatee with each visemes or the jaw?

Hi all,

Just getting started and psyched!

I'm building the character below in Illustrator and planning out the mouth shape layers.  As the subject says, what do you think would be the best way to have a character's goatee move with the mouth?  Should I incorporate it into each mouth shape or just stretch with the jaw in HeadBKG?

While I'm here, I may as well ask how I can have the head move independently on the neck.  The Chloe puppet seems to have a rigid head and torso.  What does that stick behind her do, btw?

Thanks!

Because the goatee in this character is so connected to the mouth, including it in the mouth shapes could be a good option. That's how this wizard character is set up: https://youtu.be/80lVsaILT30?si=PbuyboHvd33Wn53J&t=333

But keeping it separate might be easiest. Here's how I did a bearded character's jaw movements: https://youtu.be/p05NNzb0lzo?si=5dTGBf53n5ZRC1P4&t=541

That same video has a part about a hack to get extra head tilt: https://youtu.be/p05NNzb0lzo?si=GuVlWi6e7XPk0yUM&t=749

Hope that helps! Happy rigging!

Hey, I wanted to say thanks a lot for the reply!  Great tuts, they are really helping.   I'm still working on mouth shapes ATM, but can't wait to see how it turns out, lol. 🙂  Trying to avoid connecting the mustache or goatee to the mouth as that seems to produce a choppy movement.  TBD!
