Coldfusion 9 beta upgrade?

New Here ,
Oct 08, 2009 Oct 08, 2009

Easy Question...

I've been running the CF9 Beta (developer edition) since July.

With the this month's official release, do I need to "upgrade" my CF 9 Beta to the CF 9  official release?

Many Thanks

Yes you should, because a bunch of stuff has changed, and there's some non-backwards-compatible stuff that got implemented between the public beta and the release.

Besides: one should never run beta software in production if a release version is available (this applies to any software).  If you were to need to raise a support ticket with Adobe, they're not likely to help unless you're running the release version.

Adam,

Thanks so much for the thougtful response.

I just figured out how to back-up my administrator settings in CF9 beta. Hence, I will do an uninstall of the beta and a install of the official release.

It's surprising how Adobe gave no guidance on what to do.

Nevertheless, thanks for answering my question. Very appreciative of your time

Best regards

Hi Blue ! I am in the same boat. Could you tell me how you backed up your CF 9 beta admin settings and also if you have already installed the official release whether you encountered any issues! Many thanks !

Hi Harkirat,

In the coldfusion administrator go to "Packaging and Deployment". It should be the last menu option in the menu on the left.

Next you'll want to create an archive by specifying an archive name.

Once it's created it will appear with icons similir to those of a DSN. You will then want to click on the middle icon which is "Build Archive"

Make sure you note where the archive is saved exactly so you can deploy it (i.e., import it) when you do a fresh CF install.

Also, you need to manually back-up all files located in  {server_root_dir}\runtime\servers\coldfusion\SERVER-INF\temp\wwwroot-tmp\

Just copy these files to another location outside the CF main directory **before** you do your uninstall.

Let me know if you have any questions.
