ColdFusion MX7 Application Server problem

New Here ,
Jan 23, 2009 Jan 23, 2009
I reset defaults on Win IE because of problem with Windows Live Mobile and now CFusion MX7 Application Server will not start. I get the error message: "Windows could not start the Coldfusion MX 7 Application Server on Local Computer" with suggestion to check System Event log

System Event log explains: "The ColdFusion MX7 Application Server service killed process with pid 1232" ( I have absolutely no idea what that means! )

As a result, no browser can find my localhost server at 127.0.0.1:8500

The JRun Admin Server, CFusion Server, ODBC Agent Server and Search Services are up and running but I cannot even start Application Server manually.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am a real novice with CFusion, so please make your responses as "simple" as you can.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Update: OK. I was able to solve the browser problem, and can now view my work in Dreamweaver with my chosen browsers.

However, I still can't start the ColdFusion MX7 Application Server. It's set to start Automatically, which it does not. When I try to start it manually through Administrative Tools/Services, I still get the error message: "Windows could not start the ColdFusion MX7 Application Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor and refer to service-specific error code 2."

Any suggestions?

You can start a ColdFusion server from the command line. What the exact
command is depends on which version of ColdFusion you are using,
standalone or as a Java server.

The advantage to starting it on the command line is all status and
errors are displayed to the window.

You can also check the ColdFusion logs for start up issues.

Ian:

Thanks for the advise. I resolved the problem in an unexpected way. My laptop crashed but I was able to salvage the HD, box it and use it as an external HD, so I didn't lose any data. Got a new 64-bit Vista laptop and reinstalled CF 7 and Dreamweaver 8.0. Voila! No more problems...and the new speed and stability are impressive. 'Almost' happy about having to spend the money......In time I'll no doubt be ecstatic.
