Does the developer-edition server have anything like symlinks?

Hmmm...

If this weren't Windows, then I could insert a symbolic-link from one directory to another in order to put files in a more convenient place.  But Windows does not have symbolic-links, only those crufty things called "shortcuts" which are apparently known only to the GUI shell.

Is there any clever way, within the "port 8500 server," to create mappings?  Even if one diddles-around with configuration files to do it?
