Hi there,
Does anyone know if I will need extra coldfusion licenses if I were to setup a hot-standby backup for my servers ?
The servers are virtual machines, built on vmware platform, and we are setting up redundant environment off-site which will act as a backup should the primary environment goes down catasthropically.
What I am considering for is hot-standbys, which means the backup environment is running, almost fully configured and it is almost identical with the original because there will be data sync continuously running. So I am not currently looking at uninstalling / downgrading the CF licenses in the backup environment since not sure if that is even possible / won't mess the data sync up.
Thanks

It depends on which version of ColdFusion you are running. I believe the EULA for CF10 allows for a "hot-standby" or "failover" server using the same serial number as the production server, as long as that "failover" server is not being used for production simultaneously with the main production server. It also allows the same serial number for a "QA" server and a "development" server.
