I just received an email from Godaddy that they'll no longer support Coldfusion hosting on their servers within a couple of months.
Finito. All coldfusion websites on godaddy will have to be taken down.
For me, this is a huge burden, because I have several sites that I now have to find hosting for and waste all this time to configure again onto some other server. What about people who have businesses running on Coldfusion??
I'm sad by this. I mean, Godaddy is one of, if not, THE largest hosting company. For them to just trash coldfusion is bad sign for me.
I always worried after making the decision to use coldfusion that it would be put away someday due to its small audience. This worries me.
What do you guys think of this?

I don't have any business-stuff running on Godaddy, so take this with a grain of salt. Personally, I'm glad they're stopping ColdFusion hosting. They never really had it, IMO, given all the lock downs and restrictions placed on accounts. The up-time was awful, and forget getting support. This will give me a good excuse to finally cut all ties forever, which is something I've been meaning to do for a while now.
It feels like ColdFusion was something that GoDaddy decided to try out, didn't commit to, and is now throwing in the towel. Given the number of great and cheap ColdFusion hosting providers out there that actually know what they're doing, I don't see this is as a bad thing at all.

GoDaddy was never a major player in ColdFusion hosting. If you chose to go with them for CF hosting I offer you my condolences.
This is by no means the beginning of the end or any other such nonsense that people like to spew when someone decides to stop using ColdFusion. There are a bunch of other hosting options (much better ones) than GoDaddy.
Do a simple Google search on ColdFusion hosting and you will find a myriad of shared hosting, VPS, VDH, and Dedicated hosting options that offer ColdFusion support. Of course they will range in price, but I know at least GoWest hosting offers CF hosting for as little as $20 per month.
Personally, I am appalled by the idea of running any kind of a "business" site on shared hosting. And if you have "several sites" each running on its own shared account then you would likely be better off investing in a ColdFusion VPS. I've said before and I'll say again, shared hosting is for those who don't know better. With a single VPS and a single instance of ColdFusion you could run with more power than a dozen or more shared hosting plans.
This is a non-issue. GoDaddy shared hosting is for hobbyists and their removal of supported ColdFusion hosting speaks nothing of ColdFusion's health in the web ecosystem. What it says is that most ColdFusion developers are smart enough to seek ColdFusion hosting elsewhere. I encourage you to do the same.

"good riddance" is what i thought when i 1st saw that. their cf hosting plans while really cheap, sounded like something offered by the libyan government.
12 robot's advice is pretty sound, though if you still want shared hosting, you might give cfdynamics a look, they're so stable & drama-free i literally forget who our host is sometimes 😉

Since begenning, they were neither having good support ColdFusion tech nor good uptime for their servers which is why there are many bad reviews about them
If you are looking for cheap yet reliable CF Hosting, I would like to recommend the host that I have been using for couple of years.. Hosting A to Z - http://www.hostingatoz.com . They do have CF 9 enterprise on their servers and support is also good. If you are moving from Godaddy, they are a good choice.

I have been using hostek.com for quite some time. Support is excellent, prices seem more than fair. They, like a lot of CF shared hosting providers, disable certain tags like cfexecute, but they list the tags they don't support in the FAQ section on their site. Last I knew, you could also choose CF 8 or 9 as well.

This is great news. Bad hosts give good products a bad name.

I can second the recommendation for Hostek.com. I switched my account from GoDaddy to Hostek about three months ago when I finally got fed up limiting my site to ColdFusion 7, which was the last -- and as far as I can tell the only -- version of ColdFusion GoDaddy had.
As this is my personal, vanity site, I went with price and Hostek, at $5 a month, even beat GoDaddy on that front not to say the much better product and customer support -- for the little I needed during setup -- I have found with them.
For the professional site I manage, I will also second PaulH's recommendation for CFDynamics. They may not be the cheapest option, but the are reasonable to me and for the trouble free experience I have had with them for five plus years now is worth the extra to me. Plus, the 15% discount for paying a year up front really brings the price inline with most other 'professional' level plans. Like Paul indicates I can go months and months without even really being aware of where my site is being hosted.

Do any of you guys know if any of those CF hosts you mentioned let you also run PHP pages on the CF accounts, or is it either/or.
I ask because I currently have two plans on two different hosts. I have a CF one for my wife's site, and a PHP one for mine (I have an IPB install and a Gallery2 install, so I need the PHP for those). It would be nice to consolidate to just one account.

I can not point to any specific one that does or does not. But I am pretty sure it is rather common. I am sure the marketing material will easily tell you which ones do.

That's a strong statement there. Are you really just "guessing" on your first point, or do you have any further detail? Otherwise, it seems a leap to go from your recent bad experience to that your assertion.
As someone hosting with hostek (and databank), and also having clients who host with them (and others), I'll say I've not heard anything to support your assertion about their business status, nor have I experienced that poor support you describe.

Ive been using Media3.net ColdFusion hosting for many years now. They have competitive pricing and excellent tech support. They have hosted ColdFusion since 1996.

I think Adobe should just open it up like PHP and I guarantee it will spread like wildfire. Are they really making that much revenue from it??
The honest truth is:
1. I LOVE coldfusion
2. I hate how it's being marketed, the minimal support for it online, etc. hard to find references. In the industry it just doesn't have a name.
I just worry when i see such a large host discontinuing support. It makes me wonder about its future. Whether you like godaddy or not, when such a huge company simply gets rid of something it has negative effects.
If Walmart gets rid of your product, you just lost a huge market.
On another note, I'm on the search for a AFFORDABLE but reliable CF hosting.
Any ideas are welcome.

There are two shared web hosts I use for CF.
Gowesthosting and hostek
Both have been great and prices are reasonable.

GoDaddy quitting ColdFusion hosting is no loss. Their support was
terrible and their ColdFusion installations were severely locked down.
They were more the example of how not to do hosting. Just because the
company is huge doesn't mean they do it right.

The last time I heard Ben Forta talk about it, yes they are making good and growing revenue from it.
And there are PHP like open sources of CFML engines. Blue Dragon has one, Railo has one, I beleive there are others.

I highly recommend Intermedia.net -- if you care. They are not cheap but support and uptime is second to none. Plans start at $40/month (like I said, not cheap). They do have reseller pricing since you mentioned several accounts.

GoDaddy will shut down its ColdFusion servers on November 29th so unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) you have until then to find a new hosting solution. GoDaddy wrote that the drop of CF was to "make improvements in other areas" as only a small percentage of their customers use it.
I can guess their reasons as others here already have, but my company will continue to support it like the other reputable CF hosts mentioned above. I don't see Adobe giving up on CF just because the largest "host" in the industry did because they can't be bothered to support it.
To my knowledge, we've have CF on our servers since at least version 5 and will continue to offer hosting for it for years to come. We currently support version 9 along with PHP 5, database space, and very few limitations.

ayera.com - they're not cheap, but they're awesome. They really know their CF!
I've also used CrystalTech too (now Small Business Authority - don't like the new name)... but the hosting is good.

A couple of my customers thought that GoDaddy was a host for pornography (because of their commercials)
Glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.
