Help! Verity Collections are disappearing

Help! Our verity collections are starting to disappear! We're running CF8 Enterprise.

The files are there, but some (not all) are no longer listed in the admin verity collections list. We try to recreate them and it says that they can't be recreated because they already exist. Sometimes we can delete those folders and other times they seem to be locked. So we put them into a different folder and reindex. That works for a while and then they disappear again. Some are ok.   This started happening after we created another 512 mb instance.

We have 8 gigs on the server and 4 other 512 mb instances.  I'm wondering if the CF8 Search Service is getting flakey because there is less memory on the server. However, it seems like the server has plenty of memory headroom.   I'm not sure if it is running off the same jvm memory space as the cf8 instances themselves.

Ok.... Further to this....We deleted the new instance and the Collections have now stopped disapperaring. There are other CF8 Enterprise instances, 2 with load balancing (not Coldfusion's load balancer) for a total of 4 instances. We seem to have plenty of memory on this particular server. We added the 5th instance to be used as a development platform but Collections started to disappear shortly thereafter.

Could it be that it's because the 5th instance was not going through the load balancer?
